The bellboy led Daisy and Victorija to the hotel’s premier suite. They had no money with them, but they couldn’t have used credit cards anyway in case they were tracked. Luckily, the ability of compulsion meant money was often not needed. Victorija asked for a suite, the best in the house, and the night manager of the hotel did as she was told.
When the bellboy opened the door to their suite, Daisy gasped. It was the most luxurious room she’d ever seen. She walked in and saw a huge bed, a coffee table and a couch, and a few doors leading off the main room.
When the bellboy put the bags down, he asked, “Is there anything else I can do for you?”
Daisy knew he was waiting for a tip, and they didn’t have cash.
“Torija? Tip?”
“Oh, that.” Victorija pulled him towards her and using compulsion said, “My tip is that I didn’t rip your throat out, boy.”
“You can’t say that,” Daisy said in rebuke.
Victorija rolled her eyes. “We gave you a tip, not big, not small, but just enough to make you smile.”
On cue, the boy smiled and thanked them both.
When he left, Victorija said, “That made me feel sicker than I am.”
Daisy said, “You know, I think that compulsion thing is maybe worse than a vampire’s bite.”
Victorija cradled her stomach and sat down on the bed. “It’s a useful gift. If you weren’t here, I’d have just killed him.”
“No, you wouldn’t,” Daisy said confidently.
“Have the Debreks not told you about me?”
Daisy brought her over a bottle of water. “That was before.”
“Before what?”
“Before Lucia unlocked your memories, and you remembered you had a heart.”
Victorija brushed away the bottle and walked carefully over to the complimentary drinks cabinet and poured out a large glass of whisky. “Don’t be so disgusting, cherie.”
“Should you be drinking?” Daisy asked.
“Probably not, because you’re looking more like dinner every time I take a sip.”
Daisy walked into the bathroom and saw a gorgeous shower and large bath. “It won’t work, you know, Torija.”
Victorija came to the bathroom and leaned in the doorway. “Don’t call me that.”
Daisy ignored her and took one of the complimentary dressing gowns from the packaging.
“What won’t work?” Victorija asked.
“Trying to goad me into thinking that you’re evil.”
“I am. I’m a monster,” Victorija said.
Daisy sighed and walked up to Victorija. She put her hand on her chest and pushed. “Well, I’m a monster hunter, and I’ve caught you. So get out, so I can have a shower.”
