But it was too late. Angele slit her own throat and slumped onto the grass. Victorija dropped to her knees and pulled Angele into her lap as she bled out.
“Why, Angele, why did you take your necklace off?”
Victorija kissed Angele’s face, while Angele could only gurgle as her blood seeped into her white dress. She then screamed and roared into the sky above her.
So Victorija didn’t kill her. Angele was compelled to kill herself in front of Victorija, to cause her the most pain. Daisy held her hand to her mouth. It was so distressing to watch.
Victorija’s tears were streaming down her face, and all Daisy wanted to do was hold her.
She heard laughter and looked up to see a man approaching with a woman. It must be Gilbert, the only one that would want to hurt his daughter so much.
“You,” Victorija screamed. “You had Angele under your compulsion and told her to kill herself.”
“Yes, it was rather a good plan. Are you ready to become a born vampire now?”
Victorija roared and launched herself at her father. He easily dodged with his superspeed.
They stalked around, circling each other.
“You have killed every person I’ve ever been close to. I loved Angele. She was the most pure, innocent thing in my life, and you’ve destroyed it.”
“You’re pathetic, Victorija. Just like your mother. There is no love for us, especially from those that belong to a vampire hunter’s family. They live to kill people like me and like who you will be.”
“Maybe that’s a good idea,” Victorija shouted. She went for her father again, but he leaped over Victorija’s head and grasped her by the head from behind.
“You may be a disappointment to me, Victorija, but you will become a born vampire as you are destined to be.”
“You might kill me, but I’ll never drink blood and complete the transition,” Victorija pledged.
Gilbert laughed and said, “You won’t say that when you feel the blood hunger.” At that he snapped Victorija’s neck, and she fell to the ground.
“No, no,” Daisy cried. This was heartbreaking to watch.
After a minute or so, Victorija lifted her head. Her eyes were red, and her vampire teeth were protruding from her gums. She clambered over to the body of Angele and held her close.
Then Gilbert pulled the woman he brought with him over and used his fangs to rip open her wrist. The blood dripped down onto the ground.
“No,” Victorija said, “I don’t want to turn. I want to die with my Angele.”
Daisy was praying for Victorija not to turn, even though she knew it was futile. This moment changed the course of thousands of lives, and it didn’t have to be like this.
Gilbert licked up the woman’s arm and gave an exaggerated hum. “You want this. You’re a Dred.”
