“Take a breath, sweetheart.”

Gross.

I did as he suggested and gave him a fake lopsided smile that probably looked more like I was constipated, but at that point as long as he didn’t kill me or strap me to the wall, I didn’t care what my face looked like. Luckily, Will seemed to buy my wobbly grin.

“I can’t tell you how—”

“Stop, Sloane,” he interrupted my apology. “There’s no need to be sorry. I was on my way to the restroom when I heard the commotion.”

“Oh, well, the restrooms are on the other side of the bar,” I helpfully chirped. “I can show you the way if you’d like.”

“I’m well aware of the location.” He chuckled.

“Right, of course.”

Will clucked his tongue and dipped his chin toward the box. “Where does this need to go?”

“The trash.”

“Yes, I assumed so. Is there one door here big enough for the box or would you like me to carry it upstairs for you?”

“Oh, I couldn’t ask—”

“You didn’t. I offered.”

Before I could ask, movement at the door caught my attention. My eyes moved over Will’s shoulder and relief swept through me right before panic set in.

Asher—no, Adam.

Shit. I was going to mess this up.

Will turned to see what I was staring at and once again I was frozen as the temperature in the room rose significantly. Asher’s eyes flitted to mine for a moment before settling back on Will.

Shit. Fuck. And damn.

What was I supposed to do now?

Your job! Play it cool.

“Mr. Newcomb, may I help you with something?”

There. I used the correct name.

“I’ve been looking for you,” Asher replied.

His steel-like tone took me by surprise and since I didn’t know what to make of it or what to say to his declaration, I wasn’t sure how I was supposed to proceed.

“I’m being rude,” I announced. “Mr. Evans, do you know Mr. Newcomb?”

“Yes, we’ve met.”

Neither man moved to shake the other’s hand, which I suppose in a place like this wasn’t unheard of. You never knew where that hand had been or what was on it.

Yep, this was my life. Public masturbation and sticky hands.

Awesome. Perfect. I should’ve quit this afternoon.

What the hell happened now?

Should I say something? Move? Stay silent in the hopes that Will left?

“If you’re done here, play has started and I believe we had scheduled time,” Asher weirdly said.

Scheduled time?

The wheels in my head began to rotate until everything clicked.

This was my out.

“I didn’t realize I was holding you up,” Will smoothly interjected. “Now it is I who must apologize to you for interrupting your playtime.” He bent and picked up the box of broken glass. “I’ll take this and discard it. And don’t worry, sweetheart, my lips are sealed.”

A shiver of disgust crawled up my throat when Will brushed his hand over my shoulder before he sauntered across the room. My gaze shifted to Asher—his was aimed at the spot Will had touched. Jaw clenched, eyes narrowed, bolts of hostility might as well have been sparking off him he was so pissed.
