“You’re not who I think you are?”
“No, not if you think I’m a motherfucking, cock sucking dick who’d walk you into my home while I have company and fuck you in front of them.”
Oh, well, I had thought that was exactly the kind of man he was.
“So why am I here?”
“We had plans. Unfortunately, parts of those plans changed when my boss showed up but we still need to discuss a party, so we’ll do that and postpone the rest.”
Right. The party. Shit.
“Now, are you ready to meet my boss and Cameron?”
“Sure.”
“Can we do that without you looking at me like you’re plotting my murder?”
“Yes, now that you’ve explained the situation to me, I’ll refrain from plotting. Though, I wasn’t plotting murder. I was telepathically telling you to go fuck yourself. Obviously, since you didn’t understand my message, I need to brush up on my skills.”
That made him smile.
“I got the go-fuck-yourself message loud and clear.”
“Awesome,” I muttered. “Introduce me?”
“Yeah, sweetness, I’ll introduce you.”
He didn’t introduce me, not right away. Not before he leaned forward and kissed my temple. When he pulled back, he was once again smiling.
“Didn’t get a chance to tell you, but you look beautiful.”
I wanted to swoon at his compliment. I want to believe that this handsome man was real and this was the beginning of something special. But it wasn’t, so I didn’t swoon. I braced for the inevitable pain instead.
After that introductions were made, handshakes were given, and pleasantries were exchanged. And since my anger had faded, I took in my surroundings, including the two men. They had the same air about them that Adam had—leaning on the right side of arrogant, meaning they were confident, not egomaniacs. Both of the men were extremely good-looking; tall, broad-shouldered, lean. His boss, Wyatt, had some silver in his hair which in no way deducted from his hotness—it actually ratcheted it up. Cameron looked like the personification of the bad boy who would be oh-so-fun to spend the night with but that was all you’d get with him.
“So, Adam says you’re the executive event coordinator for Club Joi,” Wyatt said as soon as I took my seat at the table on the back deck.
Here we go.
I waited for the lewd stare or a salacious comment, but surprisingly none came.
“I am. Before that, I worked for one of the largest event production companies in Los Angeles.”
“Why the change?” Cameron inquired. “If you don’t mind me asking.”
I did mind. I didn’t want to talk about why I quit my previous job and for obvious reasons, I couldn’t tell them the truth.
More lies to remember.
“I just wanted a change. Or perhaps I wanted stability. With my previous employer I planned an event, executed it, then got a new assignment and started all over. With the club, I still have to plan and execute but without the headache of new clients.”
