“Yo! Have you got vodka?” a blond guy in his early twenties bellowed.
“Is the Pope a Catholic?” Madison answered. “Come in. Sherry, that’s Phil. My best friend.”
On closer inspection, his bright blond hair was fake, showing his dark roots. He wore low-slung bootcut jeans, and his shirt was unbuttoned—too much for Sherry’s liking—revealing his hairy chest.
First, he gave Madison a very shallow hug, then did the same with Sherry. “Fancy meeting you, hot stuff.”
Sherry’s hackles rose. That was Madison’s best friend?
“Jesus, Mad,” Phil said. “If I didn’t play for the other team, I’d snatch her for myself. She looks good enough to eat. Where did you find her?”
Madison stepped to the side to let the other five guys and two women enter.
“You’ll have a hard time believing it, but she was wearing a waitress uniform the first time we met.”
Phil shoved her. “Ooooh, Mad, you dog. I didn’t know you were into kinky stuff!”
“What?” Madison’s eyes widened. “No. No, she’s a waitress.”
“Oh.” He regarded Sherry thoughtfully. “Well, in that case… What’s your name again, sweet pea?”
She didn’t like him. At all. And that had nothing to do with his flamboyance. “Sherry.”
“What was that, baby doll?” Smiling at Madison, he said, “You’ve got a shy one here, huh?”
Madison wrapped one arm around her waist, and it took all of Sherry’s self-control not to flinch.
“You should see what a tiger she is in bed,” Madison purred.
Sherry gaped at her. Hopefully, Jake hadn’t heard that. Even if they were a real couple, Madison’s words would have been totally inappropriate.
Phil waved her off. “No, thanks.” He took Sherry’s chin between thumb and forefinger. “Although with her, I could be tempted.” He sashayed toward the kitchen. “Has somebody mixed me something by now?”
“Mad made Kamikaze,” one of the guys shouted.
“Thank the Goddess,” Phil called back. “Is the Vodka cold enough?”
“In the freezer.” Madison closed the door and followed him into the kitchen. Dragging Sherry with her, she whispered in her ear, “The guys are Mike, Jason, Ryan, Tim, and Liam. But you don’t need to remember that. I’m not even sure their parents know their names.”
Madison giggled, and her breath tickled Sherry’s ear. She would have liked to move away from her, but that wasn’t an option.
“I don’t know who the girls are, so don’t ask.”
Madison seemed so different. Sherry’s instincts told her to keep her distance, but Madison clung to Sherry as if she were the last life belt on the Titanic.
When Sherry felt Madison nibbling on her neck, her breathing hitched. Goose bumps ran down her back. She was trapped. What was she supposed to do? And why did it feel not entirely unpleasant?
