Doctor Phillips nodded and disappeared through the doors.
Sherry sank bank onto one of the chairs. Doctor Miller. Sounds wonderful.
Madison’s body vibrated with the bass blaring through Contaminated’s loudspeakers. After staying away from her apartment for a few days to let the interior designer Janice had recommended do her job, she was no longer eager to party with Phil and the guys.
Phil hadn’t even asked what had led to her crashing at his place. Maybe he thought she simply was in the mood for his around-the-clock partying. Or maybe he just didn’t care what was going on with her.
Whatever it was, she had to tell him today about Sherry. The day after tomorrow, Sherry, the boy, and Rita Mae would move in.
But after thinking about it, she had decided she would tell him the same crap as Grandmother Eileen because Phil couldn’t keep a secret to save his life.
Madison strolled to the bar and ordered a whiskey sour. She drained the glass in one gulp, ignoring a woman who smiled at her seductively. No way was she going to react to that. She was supposed to be a woman in love.
She made her way past the dancefloor to some tables set to the side when a woman breathed in her ear, “Hi, honey,” while grabbing her shoulders from behind.
Madison turned. “Hey, Nicki. How’s it going?” Not that she cared or even wanted to talk to her, but they had spent a few nice hours together, so…
“Depends.”
Madison kept on going but asked over her shoulder, “On what?”
“If you wanna join me.” She gestured to the back of the club, where some dark corners invited patrons to participate in spontaneous activities between adults.
Nicki was one of the few women she had had fun with more than once. Mostly because she wasn’t clingy or interested in anything more than some fun. In the past Madison would have dragged her into the back to let off some steam, but if she wanted to be convincing in her temporary role, having some fun with Nicki was not an option. Besides, telling her no and explaining why would provide a good test run. “I’m sorry, sugar. But…I’m taken.”
“Um, what?” Nicki bent forward, showing Madison her ample cleavage. “Did you just say you’re taken?”
“Yup. I’m totally in love.”
Nicki gaped at her as if she’d told her she was an alien.
“Sure, and I’m Madonna.” Nicki pushed her sexy body toward Madison’s.
Madison’s mouth went dry. She forced her attention away from Nikki’s huge breasts and swallowed. “I’m serious.”
