“You haven’t just managed to wake up Jake; a couple of you also scared him to death when you decided to reenact a cheap porn movie in the hall.” She moved her jaw to get rid of something that felt like a cramp.
“We were just having a little fu—” The slut exchanged glances with the woman beside her.
“I don’t care what you were doing,” Madison growled. “Get lost. Now!”
Displeased mumbling in between some laughter accompanied the group getting up and stumbling to the hall.
Phil and Madison walked side by side in silence.
“You know, Mad, you’re not a family person.”
“You know, Phil, I don’t give a shit what you think.” She tore the apartment door open and waited until everyone but him had left her place. “And something else: my name is Madison.” Without waiting for an answer, she slammed the door.
Breathing heavily, she leaned against the closed door. If she had taken a moment to think about what had just happened, she probably would have admitted herself to the loony bin. Phil was right: she wasn’t a family person. She’d never called quits at a party and certainly not for someone else. “What the hell’s up with me?” she asked into the now quiet apartment.
The first thing Madison became aware of was a weight on her shoulder. Next she felt tiny hands grabbing her pajama top.
Tiny?
She opened her eyes and saw Jake’s head. It seemed as if she had wrapped one arm around him and pulled him closer in her sleep.
That wasn’t how she had imagined it when she had given in to Sherry asking if he could spend the night with them.
Her first impulse was to shove him away, but then she caught a glimpse of his relaxed features. His quite breathing made her eyelids heavy again. She fought the urge to close her eyes. Have you totally lost your mind?
Over Jake’s head, she gazed at Sherry, who was lying half on her belly, half on her side facing her—or more likely Jake—one arm reaching out for him.
A smile stole onto Madison’s lips. It was kinda cute how those two had taken over her bed.
Cute? Okay, she probably should’ve eaten something over the course of the evening, because the alcohol was obviously still having some effect on her. That or she really was about to lose her mind. Why else would she have kicked out her friends and then allowed the boy to use her as a pillow?
Carefully, she shoved Jake to the side until he was lying beside her.
Problem solved.
Their upper bodies were still touching, but as soon as she moved a little bit more to the edge of the bed, they would cease to be in contact.
But before she could move, Jake made a noise of protest and slung one arm around Madison again.
