He'd given me carte blanche, and I sure abused it. I dug through his wardrobes, which were indeed almost entirely black and gray, with some violet, dark red, and midnight blue thrown in for something like variety, and started sleeping in one of his shirts. None of his clothing had holes for his spines, which I guessed would have been a hassle both to make and to put on by himself, so he had to be glamoring his clothing. No wonder he was fast at glamors in the fighting courts; Dain was doing them all the damn time, and keeping them up while he slept.
I thoroughly examined his jewelry, which gave me more interesting information than he might have intended. Body piercings are pretty recognizable, and it's not like I'd ever seen him naked, or even shirtless. Given the two different sizes of body piercings he had in his jewelry-boxes, he had some sort of regular-sized one (nipples? navel? I really couldn't see Dain with a bellybutton piercing, but fae were sometimes very different than humans) and had either once worn industrial ear piercings, or had a barbell going straight through his dick.
I tried not to think too hard about the latter possibility, and failed entirely. I had no concept of where he might fall in the dick spectrum, and whether we were talking Bad Dragon or regular human. The fae dicks I'd seen in person at revels and banquets were basically prettier versions of regular ones, but Dain wasn't exactly a regular fae. My mental model of him therefore came with a nice censor bar, upon which my mind helpfully overlaid one (1) barbell. Dain had given me permission to ask for embarrassing secrets in his second letter, but if I was going to get that sort of reveal, I wanted it to be from him, and not Alluin.
I discovered that Dain possessed a truly impressive collection of plant identification guides, and that many of them were annotated in his scrawling handwriting, with dates, locations, and notes about what he'd found. He also possessed a ludicrous number of swords and daggers, an eclectic variety of objects from the human world, and a collection of antlers, some of which appeared to have been gnawed upon by a dog. That went straight to the top of my list of embarrassing Dain facts: the man apparently chewed on antlers like a vigorous hound.
His bathroom remained enviable, and Kamharida teased me more than once that she was glad for my affection for the crown prince, as she no longer had to deal with hauling water for my baths.
