Since meeting Jasper, I’ve seen a lot of different looks on him. He’s been a DILF, a professor, an outdoorsman, and casually cool. But he’s never looked like this before. Good thing, too, because if he had, I can say with great certainty that yesterday wouldn’t have ended with a kiss. As it is, with him in my hallway, only steps away from my apartment, I want to grab him by the collar and drag him to my bed.

If someone had told me that Jasper would show up at my door wearing a pair of black trousers and a silk floral-print shirt only buttoned halfway, I’m not sure I would’ve believed them. I also don’t think I would’ve thought that outfit would make my mouth go dry.

Yet here we are.

“Wow.” I use every ounce of self-control I have to pry my eyes away from his exposed chest and back up to his eyes. “Serving some Harry Styles realness, are we?”

He nods, and his smile changes in a way I may not understand, but do like. “Just hoping for a little watermelon sugar.”

My jaw drops open.

I don’t know what I was expecting him to say, but it was not that. It feels like a small miracle I don’t fall to the floor, my clothes evaporating into thin air so he can have his wicked way with me.

“If you want, we can just stay here.” I ignore all social norms and go for it. Sure, we’ve only kissed a couple of times, but YOLO or whatever.

“As much fun as that sounds, and it does sound fun.” He leans in and drags his hand up my back until he’s cradling my neck and it’s like I only have nerve endings where he’s touching me. “We have a concert to get to.”

I stop thinking sexy thoughts.

My eyes go wide and I start jumping up and down, my heavy rubber soles shaking the hardwood floors. “Oh my god! Really? A concert?”

Whereas books have never been my favorite, music has been a dependable confidant for as long as I can remember. There’s just something about concerts, the music overpowering any thoughts you might have had and the bass vibrating throughout your body. It forces you to live in the moment and feel. Swaying with the person next to you as you sing along to the lyrics, which mean something different to every person in the crowd.

It’s the best.

And now I get to go to one with Jasper Williams on my arm.

What a treat!

“You didn’t guess? I thought it might be pretty obvious from the book what the activity would be.” He looks so pleased with himself for pulling off a surprise that I decide not to tell him I’m notorious for being a terrible guesser.
