My dad’s new girlfriend is the B-word. I know I’m not supposed to say it, so I don’t want to write it either, but you know what I mean. She doesn’t really talk much to me but she’s always looking at me and frowning like I’ve been bad even though I don’t do anything. I met her for the first time this weekend. Daddy said he had a surprise for me, and it wasn’t a toy or book or doll like I thought. It was his new girlfriend. Daddy invited her over and she brought a lot of groceries and cooked spaghetti and bread and salad. It wasn’t as good as my mom’s spaghetti because my mom’s spaghetti is homemade, and this was just out of a can. But it was okay, I guess. She told me to call her Ms. Erika with a k. (She stressed the k part). The cool thing is she did bring her daughter with her and she is kind of nice but really quiet. My friends at school would call her a nerd. So we didn’t really talk much.

My dad kept telling me to be nice to Ms. Erika with a k so I did. I smiled and asked her questions about what she liked to do and if she liked to skate. But I heard her tell my Daddy I talk too much. I guess she doesn’t really like me either. I want to tell my Daddy this, but I think it would hurt his feelings because he seems to really, really like Ms. Erika with a k. I think he loves her like mommy loves Daddy Jamie. I asked Daddy if he wanted to ever get back with Mommy and he said no with the F-word. Then he told me to go to my room. I was sad until he came in later and brought me a cookie and told me that my mom wasn’t really a good woman so he couldn’t love her anymore. I didn’t know what that meant so I asked Deven, and she said that I must’ve heard wrong because my dad was a jerk and he wanted mommy, but she didn’t want him. So he was bitter. Deven then told me that mommy and her daddy were getting back together and I didn’t need to ruin that because they were a family. And she was right.

When they did get back together, my daddy was really mad about that. But he seemed sad too. That’s why I’m kind of okay with him being with Ms. Erika with a k. He needs someone to make him smile again and I guess she does that. He said it’s like we’re a big, happy family. That’s like what Deven brags about. So that part is kind of nice to hear.
