Daddy wants me to come live with him. He said that him and Ms. Erika with a k have been looking on the internet and that when I turn twelve, I can decide who I want to live with. I don’t know how I feel about that yet. I mean I think it would be fun to live with my daddy and even Ms. Erika with a k and her little girl but it would feel so weird not being around my mom and Deven all the time. And then what about my friends at school? And my teachers? Daddy says I can come visit any time I want. He says it’ll be like it is now, just flipped so I would live with him and see Mommy on the weekends. Which I guess is not so bad. I don’t know. It will probably be cool with her. I’m sure she would want me to go. And Daddy seems so excited to have me around all the time because he says he misses me when I’m gone. And I miss him too. He said we could maybe move into a bigger house, and I could have my own room and my own space. Plus, a new school. A better school. Then he told me all the things we would do together like cooking and movies and skating. He even said if I was really good, he would let me have a dog which is what I really, really want! But I don’t know, it’s such a hard decision. How could they let almost twelve-year-olds make this kind of choice? I’m going back home this weekend and I’m going to make sure to talk to Deven and see what she says about it. And I trust her, so I know she’ll tell me the truth whether it’s a good or bad idea. I just don’t want to stay and wished I had moved. And I don’t want to move and wish I had stayed.

Chapter Twenty-four
Where was he?
Deven hung up the phone for the fourth time and stared at Benji’s name on the screen. She figured he would’ve answered, or at the very least, called her back by now. She had left a message for him last night and sent a text that morning letting him know that she planned on returning to Kennedy’s apartment if he wanted to meet her there. Now, she sat outside the building watching the pedestrians while she waited for him to reach out.
