- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
“Ladies and gentlemen, do we have a treat for you,” Carol said into the microphone. A buzz of excitement swept through the crowd just as Zeke stuck his head into the curtained area, looking concerned. He took in the sight of her standing with Spencer, and she didn’t miss the flash of jealousy in those pretty green eyes.
“Looks like I’m on,” Spencer said, giving her a wink. “Don’t worry, Ladybug. It’s all good. I promise.”
Chase nodded.
Carol continued her introduction. “He normally fights crime, taking out the bad guys with just one punch. His strength is only measured by his need for justice. Mount Larsen festival goers, put your hands together for the righter of wrongs, the enemy of evildoers, a hero for the ages. Let’s welcome . . . the . . . Hammer!” Carol sounded like one of those guys who announced boxers in an arena. The former real estate agent had really missed her calling.
A huge gasp and resounding applause broke out as Spencer threw back the curtain and stepped on the platform, waving at the crowd.
Chase turned back to Zeke and rolled her eyes. “They could probably take off the m-e-r.”
Zeke looked momentarily confused and then smiled. “Oh, a ham? Yeah, he’s that.”
“But a really nice guy.”
“You’re freezing. Let’s get you into something dry,” Zeke said, holding up the bag she’d packed with her change of clothes. He stepped inside, ensuring the curtains were secure all around. “I’ll wait outside so no one tries to peep.”
“Look at you. Trying to get me dressed. So opposite from most guys, who try to get me out of my clothes.”
Zeke gave her a look. “I’m good at that, too.”
“Are you now?” she flirted, batting her eyes.
“But you said you wanted a funnel cake. You’re going to have to choose. Sex with me standing up in essentially a changing room with thousands of people right outside or delicious, hot funnel cake,” he teased.
“Can I do both? At the same time?”
“Like George Costanza?”
“Who?”
Zeke shook his head. “I’ve got a lot to introduce you to.”
“Is that an innuendo?” she asked, taking the duffel bag and dropping the towel. His gaze went right to her girls, but to his credit he yanked his eyes back to her face in under a second.
“Do you want it to be?” he asked. His eyes slid down again to where her hands gripped the sopping hem of her T-shirt.
