- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Neve held out her hands and shrugged. “Someone who got tired of her own bullshit. I’m really glad both of you caught up. I was still mad at you when I came here all those weeks ago, Liv, but after being here for a while, I don’t know. I just got tired of who I was, who we were. Maybe this cabin, as homely as it is, has some kind of magic in it?”
They all three looked around as if Neve’s words might be true. The place still looked stuck in 1983, but there was something to the clunky furniture and nubby couches. The new rug and curtains complemented the homey charm, and the smell of lemon furniture polish and burning bread—
“Is that bread burning?” Chase asked.
“Shit!” Neve leaped up and ran to the kitchen, leaving Chase and Olivia smiling at each other.
“So you really are that good?” Olivia asked, her voice holding a bit of awe.
“I really am.”
“I’m so happy about that, Chase. I truly am.”
Chase smiled. “And I hope you can reach that place. I know you’ve got a lot weighing on you, and I appreciate you sharing that with me when we were at the beach yesterday. Like I was your friend and not your client.”
Olivia stood up and walked over to Chase, sinking down beside her. She extended her hand.
Chase slid her hand into Olivia’s.
“I think we’ve hit that level. Clients have never given me advice. Well, other than the infamous ‘Go fuck yourself,’ which is immensely popular.”
That made Chase giggle. “I think I used that one.”
“You did. More than once.” Olivia squeezed her hand and released it. “So Spencer . . . you really think he’s interested?”
“Yeah. You know he is. Do something about it. I mean, it may not work out, but it could be a fun few months, right?”
Olivia smiled. “Yeah. I think it could.”

Seven months later
“I can’t believe we just did that. We are so bad,” Olivia said, hooking her bra and pulling down the mirror in Spencer’s new convertible and checking her makeup. “We’re going to be late.”
“We won’t be late,” Spencer said, cranking the car and pulling away from the scenic overlook. “Have you seen the way I drive this car?”
Olivia grinned at him. “You are so humble.”
“I know. It’s one of my best qualities, along with my lovemaking skills, rock-hard abs, and ability to hug these curves—all curves, for that matter.”
She rolled her eyes and adjusted her skirt. She glanced down at her watch and frowned. “We’re so going to be late.”
“But I wanted to make sure you look your best for the wedding. And you know you look absolutely amazing right after you come,” Spencer said, putting the pedal to the metal on the BMW.
