- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Chase would have told her where she could stick her stupid prepaid card, but Olivia rolled up the window and pulled away, leaving her holding an ugly crossbody purse and several cloth bags in the middle of the Sav-A-Bunch parking lot. A homeless-looking man walked by and glanced at her. Chase clutched the purse tighter and moved toward the entrance, where several wounded grocery carts tilted drunkenly.
Olivia wanted her to adult?
Fine.
Time to prove Chase London could handle her own damn life.

CHAPTER TEN
Olivia turned out of the Sav-a-Bunch parking lot and pointed the car toward Bed Bath & Beyond. She’d examined the cabin bedding the previous night, using the flashlight on her phone to determine if the stacks of linen in the upstairs closet would work or not. Her grandmother’s numerous handmade quilts looked to be in decent shape and once laundered would be perfectly cozy, but some of the sheets were moth eaten. She’d added towels and a new shower curtain to the list, too. Once she got the needed bedding, she’d go to Home Depot to get the cleaning products, light bulbs, and other supplies. She’d intentionally waited to make her list until after they’d arrived at the property so they would know what they needed. No sense in buying things they couldn’t or wouldn’t use . . . or having to go back to the city any sooner than they had to. Of course, she had expected to have electricity so list making would be easier. Guess the lack of heat and a hot shower had at least given Chase a decent first challenge for the adulting boot camp.
She had to give the actress credit—Chase hadn’t complained much once they’d devoured Zeke’s chili and saltines and settled onto the couch. In fact, Chase had zipped herself inside the sleeping bag and dropped off to sleep while Olivia prowled the cabin full of memories, making her lists and trying not to let the wisps of giggles and camp songs haunt her. Three little girls in footie pajamas playing pick-up sticks and dancing to old records seemed to appear as she went from room to room.
Poor naive little girls.
They couldn’t have known their family would come so unraveled.
