  31. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

“Oh, for heaven’s sake,” Olivia said, wishing she could press her hands against her flaming cheeks.

Chase laughed.

Olivia schlepped over to the table, pulled out a chair, and sank down. She put the coffee down and pressed her hands over her face. “What in the hell have I done?”

“Um, you did the finest man I’ve ever seen,” Neve said, pulling Olivia’s hands from her face. “I mean, seriously, Liv. Score.”

Olivia looked at both of them. They looked happy for her. She hadn’t seen Neve happy in a long time. And Chase didn’t look like the haunted actress running from her problems. She looked like someone Olivia had known longer than two months. “I’m so embarrassed. I can’t believe I did that.”

“Why are you embarrassed? Sex is natural. Sex is fun,” Chase said.

“You’re quoting George Michael?” Neve said, still smiling.

“Who?” Chase asked, looking momentarily confused. Neve made a face like she couldn’t believe the actress didn’t know who sang “I Want Your Sex.”

“I shouldn’t have done that. I don’t do things like that,” Olivia said, shaking her head.

“Was it good?” Neve asked, tilting her head in a quizzical way. Like their old boxer Tim-Tim.

Olivia didn’t have words for how good it had been. Maybe it was because it had been a long time since she’d shucked her drawers for any man, or maybe it had been that she’d fantasized about Spencer. Or maybe it had been the right time, right guy, right place. No matter, what she’d done with him in her grandparents’ mountain cabin (dear Lord) had been about the best sex she’d ever had. Ever.

“Uh, yeah, it was.”

“I bet. They don’t call him the Hammer for nothing,” Chase teased.

Olivia let herself smile at that one. “Okay, enough.”

Chase shook her head. “Oh, no. I got berated for just hanging out with Zeke. You got dirty with a superhero. You have to take what we dish.”

A creak at the doorway had them all turning their heads. Spencer came in, his hair ruffled adorably, clad only in pajama pants. He looked . . . hotter than anything she’d ever seen. Good heavens. “Morning, ladies. Hope you saved me coffee.”

He padded over toward the coffeepot in his bare feet. Seriously, even his feet were pretty.

Neve looked at her and mouthed, “Holy shit.”

Olivia got it. This man was a fantasy guy with his tanned, toned torso, strong, jutting jaw, and baby-blue eyes that warmly took them all in when he turned back toward them. “As you know, I would prefer tea, but I can drink coffee. Not picky.”

He smiled and looked at them like he expected them to say something, but all three of them didn’t seem to have words.

“What?” he asked.

“Nothing,” Chase said. But Olivia saw her wink at Spencer.
