She wouldn’t show me the script itself. She said it needed work, and then we fell out. But I kept wondering: So what happens to White Fox in the end???? Does she leave her husband and stay a fox forever, like in the legend? I’m sure you wonder, too.
We hold our breaths.
I’m sorry for taking the last rough draft from the magazine box in the tower, ten years ago. And I’m sorry for returning only three parts earlier this year.
And then, there it is.
PART FIVE
INT. GRAND OLD HOME — NIGHT
White Fox, clothed in a dress stained with blood from her mouth and seated in a small room, with Client 2 / Man on the Moon kneeling before her, pressing a clean towel to her face.
CLIENT 2 / MAN ON THE MOON
Oh, my dear. How awful.
WHITE FOX
Please don’t concern yourself with my health now.
CLIENT 2 / MAN ON THE MOON
How could I not?
WHITE FOX

He shakes his head.
CLIENT 2 / MAN ON THE MOON (CONT’D)

White Fox, distracted by the pain, shakes her head.
CLIENT 2 / MAN ON THE MOON
I planted them there after you left. I have planted them again and again since you left.
WHITE FOX
(blandly)
I’m sure they’re very pretty.
CLIENT 2 / MAN ON THE MOON
Oh, my dear. As always, beauty is only the start.
WHITE FOX
(sighing)
Well, thank you for the gesture, I suppose.
CLIENT 2 / MAN ON THE MOON
Oh. They aren’t for you. They live out there, you understand, so the foxgloves were planted to guide them home, should they ever lose their way in the forest.
The far-off chattering resumes. We see dark splotches in the glass: Someone is outside. White Fox tenses up, thinking of the creatures that pursued her.
WHITE FOX
(afraid)
Who lives out there?
TWINKLING LAUGHTER from that unknown source outside. Client 2 / Man on the Moon, still sitting on the ground, smiles. White Fox, uneasy, stands and walks to the window.
WHITE FOX (CONT’D)
