(to herself?)
I got so darn lucky.
You nod along. When you finish your meal, the creature—now glowing so much she looks lit from within—smiles at you again.
You wonder, briefly, if you have sea urchin on your face.
And then her form explodes into tiny, hot heart emoji, rising like steam into the tree’s gracious branches. Mysteriously enough, it feels like a warm embrace.

WHITE FOX
“White Fox fills you with luscious dread. Faring’s prose is a fever dream—her rich setting and poignant exploration of sisterhood and family ties had me racing to get to the end of the tale.”
—ROSHANI CHOKSHI, New York Times–bestselling author of The Gilded Wolves Trilogy
“White Fox by Sara Faring is the perfect ghost story you tell in the dark—haunting, full of mystery, and sure to keep you turning the pages well into the night.”
—ZORAIDA CÓRDOVA, award-winning author of Labyrinth Lost
“Glamorous, mysterious, and compelling, Sara Faring’s sophomore novel will make you feel as if you’ve just stepped into a glitzy black-and-white film. White Fox is alluring and will keep readers invested long past the final page.”
—RACHEL STROLLE, librarian
“Lined with an eerie, electric, and darkly glittering sense of dread, and filled to the brim with luminous prose, White Fox will sink its strange teeth into you from the very first page. As much a tale of two sisters as it is a sinister, speculative story of a missing mother, it is the details that give this inventive novel its sharpest bits: a place called the Delirium Forest; a lost script that reads like an ancient fairy tale; and the wholly realized Mediterranean island on which it is set. Sara Faring’s latest is a perfect fit for fans of Marisha Pessl or Sadie by Courtney Summers.”
—CRISTINA MARIA RUSSELL, bookseller at Books & Books
“A more sinister Over the Garden Wall mixed with the familial angst of Revenge, White Fox is a stunning novel filled with mystery and heart. Sara Faring is the King Midas of atmospheric mysteries—everything she touches turns to gold—and her sophomore novel, White Fox, is an atmospheric masterpiece, blending together a quest for a missing manuscript and a missing mother with the bond two sisters have with each other. Chilling, addicting, haunting, and truly marvelous, White Fox is the kind of mystery that brilliantly mixes multiple forms of writing: news stories; beautiful prose; and an engaging final film script of a woman who has been lost for ten years. Sometimes the greatest monsters hide right in front of you, and Manon and Thaïs are just discovering this as they hunt to find their mother. Written beautifully and intricately spun, White Fox is sure to be beloved by all who get their hands on this golden work.”
