  39. About the Author

My throat feels tight as I nod. “I don’t know. I think...I think maybe I could have been. I know that sounds stupid. But...but I don’t want a label. I don’t want any label. Pretending I was straight was just easy, because it’s the...default.” I scoff. “God, I hate that.”

He smiles, eyes shining with something I can’t name. “It’s not, though. It’s just what we’ve been taught to believe.”

His eyes continue to sweep over my face, and I have no idea what he’s thinking. What he must see now when he looks at me. Has he finally decided I’m too much work?

“I really don’t wanna stop,” I admit quietly.

His face breaks into a wide, breathtaking grin. “Look at that, another thing we can agree on.”

I roll my eyes, secretly grateful he isn’t making too big a deal out of the situation. I know it’s fucked up. Unbelievable, even. Shit that doesn’t make any sense is never easy to accept.

“But I don’t want to push you,” he says seriously, lowering his hands.

“Well, maybe I want you to. Push me that is,” I tell him, wondering where this sudden newfound willingness to share everything with him came from.

Spill one secret, and I guess it’s just a free for all from there. Who knew?

“I hate that I ruined this.”

His brow creases and he shakes his head. “You didn’t ruin anything. I just don’t know if—”

I give him a little shove, not hard enough to hurt or move him, but enough to startle him.

“Did you just push me?” he asks in disbelief.

“So what if I did? What are you going to do about it?”

He gives me a look like he has no fucking idea what to do with me.

Well, he better figure it the fuck out, because after that nice little trip down memory lane, I think I’m owed a bit of a reward.

I lean back on my forearm and slowly run a hand across my chest. His eyes drop to what I’m doing as if pulled by a string. “What are you doing?

Arching a brow, I find my right nipple with my fingers—the one with the piercing—and give it a little pinch. I feel like I’m crawling out of my skin, like I might combust into a million tiny pieces if he doesn’t fucking hurry up and touch me.

His eyes narrow up at me. “You don’t play fair.”

I smirk knowingly. “Payback.”

“For what?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know?”

He chuckles low and dangerously. “Babe, you’re playing with fire.”

I suck in a breath, heat licking over my body.

Fuck.
