  61. Thank you for buying this ebook, published by Hachette Digital.

And that’s the butterfly effect. If some jerk called Pedro Herrera hadn’t set out on a misguided attempt to take revenge on his ex-girlfriend, two hundred and twelve people would not have died, and Alice and Tom would never have ended up together, or gone on to live the lives they lived after the crash.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I want to thank Jenny Bak and the team at Jimmy Patterson Books for helping to make this novel the best it could be, not least the publisher himself, James Patterson, whose support and enthusiasm for storytelling has played a big part in getting When We Were Lost into your hands.

Thanks also to Penelope Burns and everyone at Gelfman Schneider/ICM Partners, who got behind this story right from the start.

I also want to thank Owen and Lucy, who gave crucial linguistic advice, even if they don’t remember giving it.

And finally, my thanks go to you, the reader, because without you, authors are nothing. This book is the butterfly, but you are the beating of its wings.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

KEVIN WIGNALL was born in Brussels, Belgium, and spent most of his childhood living on military bases around Europe. A prolific writer, his many novels and short stories have inspired filmmakers, musicians, and other artists. He’s based in England and spends a lot of time traveling, though he doesn’t like flying (which may or may not have contributed to the idea for this story). When We Were Lost is his first book for young adults, and is in development in Hollywood as a feature film. Find updates at kevinwignall.com or follow him on Instagram at @kevin_wignall.
