Jax looked away from Meredith, careful to keep her expression neutral. She’d never write Meredith a letter, not after pouring her heart into so many for Gretchen. She flipped Meredith on her back and lay atop her. Jax kissed Meredith hard, hoping to end the conversation.

“Caleb gets up soon,” Meredith said evenly, but her wandering hands told Jax she wasn’t too concerned.

Jax could feel Meredith’s hard nipples against her chest. She slid her hand into Meredith’s panties and touched her growing wetness. “You’re right,” she said, pulling back. “We should probably stop.”

“Don’t you dare.”

She grinned. This lightness was what she found so addicting about Meredith. They had fun and simply enjoyed one another. She kept one hand between Meredith’s legs while she held herself up with the other. She focused on the way Meredith’s body moved and felt, and the scent of arousal growing between them. Her mouth watered. “I want to taste you.”

Meredith ran her fingers into Jax’s short hair. “Then get to it,” she said deeply, pushing Jax down her body and moaning when Jax pulled her shorts off.

Jax wasted no time diving into Meredith’s pussy. She wanted and needed the feeling of power and control. She brought Meredith to her first orgasm slowly but refused to stop there. She worked Meredith’s body until she fell limp against the mattress. Jax left her to sleep while she got ready for the day.

Jax got herself together for work and Caleb ready for school in record time, sharing a sweet good-bye with Meredith before rushing to her truck. She blasted the heat and started toward Caleb’s school. After drop-off, she was heading to the office with two hours to spare before the meeting—enough time to get some work done. But something made her turn right instead of left. Something told her to stop by the hospital first, even though she’d promised to visit later. Morning traffic kept her from making it to the hospital as quickly as she expected to, and by the time she parked, she was already aggravated and regretting her decision.

She walked into Gretchen’s room and widened her eyes at the display in front of her. Both Amanda and Gretchen were crying while hugging each other. “Oh, shit,” she said, turning away and moving to leave.

“Come in,” Amanda said, waving to Jax. “Gretchen has been looking for you all morning.”

She narrowed her eyes at Amanda, truly not believing her. “I didn’t mean to interrupt. I’m on my way to the office and wanted to see if anyone needed anything.” Jax quickly noticed a troubled look in Amanda’s eyes. “Has Dr. Melendez been in yet?”

Amanda looked lost in thought before shaking it off and nodding. “Yeah, she stopped in earlier and gave Gretchen the lowdown on her injuries.”
