“Then what—”
Arryn interrupts me with a loud sigh, rubbing a hand over her face. She seems to be weighing her answer, looking down at Ward without comment and then at the breakout Speaker before she comes to a decision. “Did Enzo ever tell you his full name?”
I share a glance with Cami and see that she’s just as perplexed as I am.
When neither of us answer, Arryn says, “It’s Enzo Oberon.”
Oberon. Why is that name so familiar—
You’re Dante Oberon.
Sneak’s voice echoes in my mind, causing me to stare at Arryn with disbelief.
“Enzo is Dante’s brother,” she says quietly. “And he just saved our asses.”
Cami is gaping. “Enzo has a brother?”
“A twin, if you want to be specific,” Arryn says, pushing the breakout closer to Ward. “Fraternal, obviously. You’ll see some similarities next time you look at either of them, but without seeing them side by side, it’s hard to notice.”
She’s speaking casually, as if she hasn’t just blown both of our minds.
“So … So Enzo is working with you?” Cami repeats my earlier question, her tone full of shock. “He’s working for the Remnants?”
Arryn stiffens slightly, but then she relaxes as if finally sharing the secret is a burden lifted from her shoulders. “Yes, he’s working with me.”
“Unbelievable.” Cami brushes a wisp of hair behind her ear. “All this time—I had no idea.”
I can’t tell if she feels betrayed or not. Enzo is technically on our side—even more so than we thought he was earlier today. He’s one less person who we’ll have to convince about the truth of Lengard. And with him as an informant living on the inside, the knowledge he might have is invaluable. I wonder if he knows where Vanik is. I wonder if he might have some of the answers that we seek.
But then I look down at Ward and the breakout Speaker and I realize that now is not the time to find out. With the alarm still echoing dully through the thick door, there’s no way we can seek out Enzo right now. Another opportunity will come—it has to.
I look up to find Arryn watching me, as if she was giving me the chance to come to that realization on my own. I’m strangely grateful for that, since I probably would have debated with her otherwise, and an argument between us is the last thing we need right now.
She gives a slight nod as if understanding everything I’m thinking—a nod that is almost encouraging.
“We need to go,” I say, as difficult as it is. “We need to get these two to safety.”
