- Epilogue
During the second toast Ralston brought the appetizers. The aroma from the garlic sauce drifted upwards, tantalizing Jorden. After she finished the first course, a crisp green salad with bright red tomatoes was set in front of her. Ralston served the plates with ease. Jorden noted how he limited his comments and employed professional reserve to let them enjoy the meal and conversation.
Jorden was loosening up from the Champagne. She felt relaxed as the main course was being served. Alex had talked Jorden into ordering the Maine lobster. Never had she ordered such an expensive dinner. He ordered the beef medallions. After a short while, all of the entrees had been served except for Jorden’s.
Without warning, Ralston appeared by Jorden’s side. His arm accidently brushed against her and accelerated her senses. Captivated, she watched him cut through the lobster shell. His hands were large and masculine, but they moved like a surgeon’s, delicately slicing through the hard surface. The cracking sounds grew louder as he peeled the shell back and removed the pink and white lobster. A delightful garlic butter dip accompanied it.
“Madam.” Ralston’s fingers almost touched Jorden’s as he set the plate down in front of her. She smiled and thanked him. He smiled back, removing his hand with a slight nod of his head. She was amazed at his intensity.
Conversation slowed down as they finished their entrees. Ralston returned with a dessert cart, showing samples of rich enticing pastries. Alex, Rich, and Kim each ordered one of the spectacular treats along with coffee. This time, Jorden simply settled for coffee. After several sips, she looked at Kim. “What a spectacular dinner, evening and time meeting you and Rich.” She meant each word, she liked Kim and Rich.
Kim touched Jorden’s hand. “It’s been a treat getting to know you. Alex is a lucky man. We’re looking forward to more times together and a growing friendship.”
“Thank you. I’d like that also,” Jorden said with a smile, placing her hand over Kim’s.
Ralston returned and freshened up their coffees. “I hope you have enjoyed your dinner. It’s been my pleasure to serve you.” He placed the itemized bill enclosed in a leather jacket at the end of the table between the two men. Alex and Rich had decided to share the cost of the dinner. Jorden got a glimpse of the bill. She almost choked up when she saw the total was almost $190. To her, the amount meant at least three month’s rent. Unbelievable!
On the drive back, Jorden relaxed. She reached for Alex’s hand as he parked in the garage. He pulled her close. “I wish we could stay out here all night, but we better go in.” He leaned over and kissed her longingly.
Jorden sighed; at least they had one more night.
