  93. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Grace Li read far too many drafts of this book, and loved it when it was an ugly, meandering mess, and endured the grueling process of learning how to actually plot a damn book with me. I love you dearly, and remain the ultimate fan of everything you write, forever. Achieving our publishing dreams together has been one of the greatest joys of this entire process for me. Sarah Underwood exploded into my life via Pitchwars and I feel like I honestly won the mentee lottery. You are a force, a talent, and a joy. I am deeply thrilled I tricked you into being my friend, and I am wildly, embarrassingly proud of you. Thank you for the encouragement, friendship, plant-pillows, surprise cupcakes, and for giving me a space in your lives. I love you both so damn much, and I feel like I won the lottery getting to call you my friends.

Katie Zhao & Amelie Wen Zhao saw this book in its earliest, ugliest, messiest forms, and believed in it anyways. I don’t think I’d be writing books without either of you and I’m forever excited to read whatever you write next. Thank you to Hanna Alkaf for your warmth, kindness, internet mom-ing, and to Meryl Wilsner for your friendship, humor, and excellent taste in cheese. Thank you to Tess Sharpe for your wisdom, encouragement, brilliant shark advice, and for always giving me permission to dream a little bigger—and a little more ruthlessly.

There are so, so many brilliant minds in publishing I am forever grateful for, and while I know I am not going to be able to name them all, I’m going to try. SO! A massive thank-you to: Mara Delgado; Adrienne Tooley; Cam Montgomery; Adalyn Grace; Ruby Barrett; Alyssa Eatherly; Rosiee Thor; Roselle Lim; Francesca Flores; Alex Higgins; Ananya Devarajan; Sara Raasch; Anna Gracia; Andrea Tang; Peter Lopez; Ayana Gray; Ava Reid; and Suzie Sainwood; who have all been beyond generous with their encouragement, advice, friendship, and reality checks. You are all brilliant and I adore you. Thank you also to Kelly Van Sant and Laura Zats—the brilliant advice you’ve given me has been passed onto a-dozen-and-a-half other writers. I forever admire the hell out of the both of you. The Pubcrawl Podcast and Print Run Podcast are the only reasons I have made any smart publishing decisions ever, in my life.

Naseem, Victoria, Miriam, Skye, Brittany, Sierra—thank you for loving and believing in this book when I wanted to throw my computer into the sea. I love you guys. Layla Noor, Mike Lasagna, Rachel Stolle, Rhiannon, Cait Jacobs, Lizzy Smith, and Kaylie Steward, thank you for loving this book long after I’d stopped seeing the magic in it. Cristina—neither Ranka nor I deserve you, but I’m grateful for you every single day.
