Although Dray von Maidbanger lived up to his name, siring a dozen offspring from various sources, none of them are official heirs. In this event, lacking an official heir, the Imperium noble who acquires his ring shall inherit his territory. Since you currently hold his ring, you may choose whether to accept this acquisition and take control of the Maidbanger territory and fortune. Do you wish to accept?

[Yes / No]

Guaranteed Reward: 4 Levels.

Warning: Accepting this will not only increase your territory but also your responsibilities on the island. Failure to protect your territory from an NPC-organized invasion or rebellion against the Imperium will result in expulsion from the Imperium and potential deletion of your character.

Warning: Not accepting the ring will respawn Dray von Maidbanger; however, the quest will not be repeatable for you.

Lucas didn’t even have to think about it. No matter what the risks were, this was what he had come for, and everything came with its challenges and difficulties attached. Yes, Lucas thought, reaching out and touching the button. The fact that hitting “No” would regenerate the main bad guy and let the GM resume his role as the jerk of the island didn’t even factor into his decision. He had known his answer before the first warning sign had appeared.

Title Upgrade: You are now Baron Lucas the Murderer, ruler of Hesse.

Territory Acquisition: You now have direct control over Dray von Maidbanger’s territory as well as indirect control over the remaining Imperium nobles on Hesse as the highest-ranking member of the Imperium on the island. While indirect control over their territories will give you small amounts of influence as well as minor advantages in trade negotiations and future dealings with these nobles, this will not prevent them from attacking you, nor allow you to command their troops in battle.

Nobility Ring Rank Up: While wearing your ring of the Imperium, your Charisma score with subjects of the Imperium has now increased by 50%. This will not influence those that aren’t Human citizens directly underneath the control of the Imperium.

Loot Acquisition: In addition to seizing all Maidbanger properties, minor items, and gold (3182 gold pieces), you have also gained two of Dray’s major items: Cursed Tome of the Endless Reader, Maidbanger’s Targeting Specs, and Belt of Backup.

Lucas was about to open his inventory and check out the items, but then he noticed Liu was still standing in the same spot she killed Lagrand.

“Liu?” Lucas asked, not sure what was going through her head as he watched her slowly turn her face toward him. Her mouth hung slightly open, and her face wore a hollow expression.

“I did it . . .” she began, putting down her rapier. “I mean, we did it. He’s dead. His character is gone. If he wants to play this game again, he’ll have to petition and get a new one made.”
