What the hell? This freaking sucks, Lucas thought as the shield slowly circled. He started moving around in the opposite direction of the shields, trying to get a clear attack point, but just as he did, he saw Lagrand let loose another spell. A giant pillar of Lightning shot from the ground and into the ceiling right in front of Liu. After the initial flash, the arcing electricity persisted as a massive crackling column of energy. Eight other pillars thundered into existence, and then all nine of them began to meander around the room.

Lucas suddenly had absolutely no idea what to do next. He didn’t have a spell that would so much as touch those pillars, much less counter them. They were made of dozens of bolts of electricity, and while he wasn’t willing to test the theory, he was willing to bet that a single touch would spell certain death.

He threw out a Scorching Skull for lack of anything else to do and hoped that it would break one of the Ice shields. But, before it could reach its target, one of the Lightning Pillars shifted direction and absorbed it. Lucas threw out two more Scorching Skulls, but they were shattered by Lagrand’s fiery whip, a spell with more intensity and fury than Lucas’s own fire spell.

When none of his initial volley of spells worked, Lucas looked over at Liu to see how she was doing. Lady Xun Guan was only known to have a single Chi attack in her arsenal, and that severe lack of versatility in combat was part of what made her easy to defeat. The attack wasn’t fancy; it was a simple rapier thrust. She would shoot forward and do damage based on how much speed she could build up as she charged her opponent. At the moment, however, she couldn’t use it at all.

“Liu!” Lucas shouted, an idea coming into his head. “Over here!” While Liu rushed to him, dodging the pillars of Lightning that danced between them, Lucas began throwing Exploding Tears. Lagrand was able to channel spells quickly, though not nearly as fast as Lucas since many of his spells were high tier and required a lot more Arcane Energy than the ones Lucas had access too. Earthen Wave shot out yet again, and the top of the wave snapped just high enough to catch one of the balls of water and send the liquid gushing everywhere.
