Chapters (17)
The evolution tab had five options at the start, each one branching off into its own unique tree with descriptions that, unfortunately, weren’t exactly descriptive. Of the five potential skills, two of them had grey backgrounds, one of them had a red background, and two of them had blue backgrounds. The skills were as follows:
[Red] Large and in Charge (1 Evolution Point): This option will not only increase Saba’a’s size, but also the proportionate strength and size of her legs. Big spiders exist, but big spiders need bigger, fuzzier legs to get around.
Note: Choosing this skill will lower Saba’a’s loyalty. Saba’a is currently against any pick that will make her appear fatter.
[Grey] Strengthened Silk (1 Evolution Point): Spider silk spun by Saba’a will be more durable and less vulnerable to physical attacks.
[Grey] A Spider by Any Other Name (4 Evolution Points): Saba’a will grow two large scorpion-like claws. They will help her grip, rip, and tear enemies and terrain apart.
[Blue] Lighter and Tighter (2 Evolution Points): Saba’a will become skinnier, shedding many of her heavy layers of fat as she evolves a much higher metabolism, allowing her to move more quickly and easily.
Note: Choosing this will raise Saba’a’s loyalty. Saba’a is currently in favor of any pick that will make her appear thinner.
[Blue] The Proxy Hatch Rush (1 Evolution Point): Saba’a’s eggs, previously ornamental decorations, will become fertilized and hatch quickly. She will be able to maintain a limited-size brood.
Note: Choosing this will raise Saba’a’s loyalty. Saba’a has always wanted to have kids and curses Kegan for stripping her of that ability when he was the dungeon boss. Help Saba’a achieve every monster parent’s dream: to spawn a ton of children that will do all of her work for her. [Saba’a’s children might curse you for their own existence as slaves to an unappreciative and demanding mother.]
Note: This is normally a default option. 1 Evolution Point is required to reactivate it following Sir Kegan’s locking of the ability.
Lucas didn’t see any downside to miniature spiders, but he did hate the fact that he had worked so hard to kill the eggs during his first fight with Saba’a only to now find out that none of them would have hatched because Kegan had removed a base evolution from her. He decided to go with that one first. He could have gone with Lighter and Tighter, possibly making the single spider as equally effective as a horde of fast-moving babies, but at low levels, he believed that most people would be more vulnerable to attacks from many directions rather than an attack from one. He also assumed that, as soon as one player figured out that the giant silk ropes that spanned the dungeon were Saba’a’s weak point, that info would spread everywhere, and she’d be very easy to handle. He needed to get more bodies on the field as fast as he could.
When he selected the upgrade, it unlocked three more options:
