BILL: “Run…Ricky.”

STANLEY: Did he run?

BILL: No.

STANLEY: No, not when he saw Rigo lying facedown in blood. He didn’t even fight you.

BILL: I was so drunk…

STANLEY: You had one gin on the plane and one in the bar. That’s not even half a Christmas.

BILL: I was drunk! I didn’t know what I was doing!

STANLEY: But you know now?

BILL: Yes!

STANLEY: What did you do?

BILL: I took a crowbar that I bought while you were looking at Marilyn Monroe’s handprints in cement, and I beat him up with it. Again. Again. He begged me and you begged me, but I couldn’t stop…

STANLEY: You bought that crowbar BEFORE the ceremony. You planned this—

BILL: I didn’t. I swear to God, you have to believe me. Please believe me. He’s my boy; my son and I left him on the carpet…How is he? Please, tell me how he is.

STANLEY: Let’s just say you’ve changed his life.

BILL: I was drunk out of my mind—

STANLEY: How drunk were you when you killed the patrolman at the Nevada border?

<silence>

You made it pretty far on your own, I’ll give you that. But as it turns out…while I was at the hospital with my cousin, still in my suit stained with his blood and Rigo’s blood and your blood and mine…turns out, you were already on a private plane heading here. The island.

GARY: Stan—

<hard coughing>

You don’t need this part—

STANLEY: You already found help from my father, your wife’s big brother. So protective. So eager to HELP.

<harder coughing>

Imagine my shock when I brought Ricky home again and found Aunt Sharon bullied and silent. My uncle vanished. My dad explaining to me that, besides the horrible thing done to that highway patrolman…justice had been served to Rigo and Ricky.

BILL: How do I know they won’t track me to Nightlight?

STANLEY: There’s no public record Nightlight exists. Or of our family’s connection to it.

<ragged coughing>

GARY: That’s enough recording, Stan. Did you get everything management asked for?

STANLEY: Oh, Dad…management didn’t ask for this. This was for me.

BILL: No, but you said—

STANLEY: I lied. Just like my father has lied to everyone. Why I was told, blood still under my fingernails, to “SUCK IT UP” and go along and if I didn’t, “IF YOU DON’T DO THIS FOR US…”

<brief silence>

But now it’s time for me to look after Nightlight…and look after you, Bill.

BILL: Gary—

<coughing>

Gare, are you gonna let him talk like this?

STANLEY: Dad doesn’t have much time left. In fact, tragically, he passed away today.

GARY: What?

STANLEY: He coughed himself unconscious—

GARY: Stanley?

<ragged coughing>

STANLEY: Dad collapsed on our little red bench and rolled right off the cliff.

<loud clatter>
