Hell, while I was examining all my damn feelings, I wanted Devan too. Just as much as the other two, maybe more, because he was so out of reach. He was aloof, but somehow it just made me want him more. I felt his eyes on me like a physical brand sometimes, and that shit was heady.
There was a knock at the door, and I buried my head under my pillow. “I’m sleeping,” I shouted into the mattress, and I heard the door squeak open.
Someone crept in and sat on the bed. I didn’t need to turn my head to know it was Rigby. I could smell his cologne. “You yell in your sleep then.”
I sighed, rolling to the side. I wasn’t a coward. “I kissed River.”
Rigby raised an eyebrow. “I know.”
Ugh. Why couldn’t he storm out of here in jealousy so I didn’t have to explain this next part? I tugged at my lip with my teeth. “This afternoon, we did something that could be construed as the start of something…” I sounded dumb. Maybe he gave oral sex to women willy-nilly, and I was about to come off as clingy. “I shouldn’t have kissed someone else before we’d talked about what that meant.” I winced.
He reached over and patted my arm comfortingly. “I don’t mind. I don’t own you.”
“Oh. Okay. I didn’t mean that I wanted things to be more exclusive or anything. You can, uh, do whatever you like with whoever too. I don’t own you either.” My cheeks flushed, and the very idea of Rigby kissing another woman made acid burn in my gut. “Glad we cleared this up. I am tired, though.” I turned my face back into the pillow so he couldn’t see me.
Rigby chuckled softly. “Come on, Fireball. That’s not what I meant. The guys are downstairs and I think it's time we all talked, don’t you?”
“No. I’m happy burying my head in the sand, thank you very much.” Arms wrapped around my torso, and he hefted me up and over his shoulder. “Rigby!”
“Come on, my little ostrich. Nothing was ever resolved by pretending it didn’t happen.”
I snorted, snatching up the baby monitor on the way past, despite hanging upside down. Rigby carried me easily, and honestly, there was a hindbrain part of me that just enjoyed that shit. The fact he could throw me around so easily was just… mmph.
We bounced down the stairs, and it wasn’t particularly comfortable, though his large hand was around my upper thigh, nice and close to some other parts that were feeling suddenly neglected.
