Simon sighs. “I wish I could tell you no. But my experience with inheritance situations makes me think it’s possible.” He nods at her. “But we’ll get it taken care of as fast as possible, and I know for a fact that the house will sell in a flash. You don’t find that level of restoration almost anywhere these days. It’s really a special property. Buyers will start circling it like sharks. Mark my word.”
Simon turns to me. “And, Willow, Mason doesn’t have a phone yet, hoping to remedy that this weekend, so do you mind if I get your number? That way you and Mason can connect.” I manage a nod, and he turns to my mom. “And while they’re out, we could meet again, I’ll draw up some firmer numbers, pull some comps. We can come up with a sale plan.”
Sale plan? My stomach clenches so hard, I’m suddenly nauseated. My mom, on the other hand, looks relieved.
“I’ll send you her contact now,” she says, pulling out her phone. And I swear, she is holding back a grin when she says it.
I meet Mason’s gaze again and my heart jumps back into my throat. This time it’s definitely about Mason. I don’t know how to describe it exactly, but he feels like a big deal.
– 16 – Mason
Signs come in threes. You’ll see, it’s all working out for us.
There’s so much happy adrenaline rushing through me, I feel like I could take to Essex in my own mini parade, complete with song, choreographed dance, and more balloons and star confetti than the Morgans have ever dreamed of.
Maybe not the choreographed dance part.
But definitely the balloons and confetti part. I’m in a ridiculously good mood. The universe has hand-delivered me the mermaid not once but twice. First on a dark rooftop, then in a well-lit café, like it wanted to be doubly sure that I was getting the memo. True, I don’t know exactly yet what meeting Willow means, but that will sort of unfurl itself, won’t it? My mom never knew what her signs meant right away either. Like once when we came home to three sparrows sitting on our front stoop and two days later she got a new job. I need to have patience. And trust. As long as I figure out how to spend more time with Willow, whatever message the universe is sending my way will make itself clear to me.
I hardly know her, and yet everything about it feels cosmic. Like we were already on this trajectory. The next steps will appear. They have to.
