I wait for Nova to stomp out of the room before clicking on the search history. I’m not trying to catch her in anything, but I am genuinely curious. What could she possibly be looking at that would require this much angry energy? I mean, I know what most people are looking at when they’re sneaking around on the Internet, but I doubt that’s what she was looking at in the middle of her family’s dining room.
The browser history shows a good twenty websites, and as I scan down the list of all the ones she’s been to, my eyebrows go up.
Why Are Sloths So Slow Plus Ten More Sloth Facts
Hilarious Sloth Memes to Brighten Your Day
This is what Nova the Terrible is reading up on? Sloths?
I click through a few of the fact sites, scanning the lists of facts. Today’s sloths are about the size of a medium-sized dog. But ten thousand years ago, their ancestors, called Megatherium, could grow to be as large as elephants.
Terrifying.
A typical sloth will fall out of its tree once a week. They can fall ten stories without sustaining significant damage.
Hilarious.
I sit back in my chair. It’s like seeing a tiny chink in her armor. Nova likes sloths. I click through a few more memes, then double-check that Simon is still watching the game.
And then it’s time. I take a deep breath, working up my courage. I’ve been anxious for solo time with the computer so I can look for my mom, but that doesn’t mean I particularly like looking for her. Mom roulette has never been easy.
Here are the rules. Basically, you type her name into as many spots as you can think of, and then try not to succumb to despair when nothing comes up.
