- About the Author
Brendon’s eyes widened and he nodded.
“And what we’d really like to do,” Nancy went on, “is offer you two more appearances talking about shoes for all seasons and occasions.”
“More appearances.” A flush of excitement went through her. “Really?”
“Yes, really. Ralph and Jayne thought you had great on-screen presence and will be very popular with viewers. You also ad-libbed with style, which is essential to live TV.”
“Oh, well, thanks.” She could feel her cheeks heating, her stomach clenching. This could be such a big break for her and Winter Shoes.
“So what do you say?” Nancy asked. “The first appearance would be tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?”
“Yes, I know it’s short notice and you’d need to be at Grace Studios for nine in the morning then you’d be on at ten-forty-five. I can go through a standard contract and salary details when you get here.”
“Wow, I mean, yes, that’s sounds fine. Great.” She was going to be on TV…again. Ralph and Jayne really liked me.
“Perfect, we’ll see you in the morning. I’ll leave a staff pass for you at reception so bring ID. Once you have that, head to Studio Four’s hair and makeup. Will you be okay, it can be a bit of a rabbit warren?”
“I’ll be fine. I managed last time.”
“Good, have a nice evening then, Megan.”
“You too.” Megan ended the call.
“What in the sweet name of Jesus was that all about?” Brendon asked, standing and ramming his hands on his hips.
“Another appearance. They want me to go on Ralph and Jayne in the morning to do another shoe fashion presentation. Season shoes, occasion shoes, like bridal.” She glanced at Georgie. “It’s fabulous, an amazing opportunity and I think there will be one more after that.”
“I told you they loved you,” Brendon said, grinning manically. “Clearly they really loved you, and blimey, this could sky-rocket Winter Shoes into the stratosphere.” He shook his head. “There is so much to do, so much to do. Come on, we should start planning. Where are those shoes that came in last week?”
“In the spare room.” Megan’s cheeks were aching from smiling so much. Her heart was trip-trapping along. Was she dreaming? She had to stop herself from pinching her arm to check she was awake.
Her phone rang again. “They must have forgotten to tell me something.”
She glanced at the screen. Withheld number.
“Hello?”
No response.
“Hello, who’s there?” she said. “I can’t hear you.”
Silence.
A chill dampened down her excitement of moments ago. Her scalp prickled and her stomach tensed. There was nothing wrong with the line…she could hear faint breathing. It was just someone listening to her, not replying.
Quickly she ended the call.
“Who was that?” Brendon asked.
“No one.”
