- About the Author
He dabbed the worst of the liquid from his sweater. She adored his hands, they were big and strong, the nails square and his knuckles wide. There was also just hint of forearm hair that sneaked down over his wrist, barely there but oh, so sexy.
“Can I get you another coffee?” she asked, indicating his cup, which had lost an inch of fluid.
“No, it’s fine.” He tipped his head. “But you can do something.”
“What’s that?”
“Join me for lunch, there’s a table free by the window.” He nodded over her shoulder. “No pianist, though, I’m afraid.”
He still wanted to speak to her? Spend time with her? Even after her skittish performance the night before. “Well, er yes, okay. If you want.”
“I do.” He turned to the cashier who had added up the cost of his lunch. “Shall I?” He looked at her tray.
“No, it’s fine, really, I’ll get mine.”
He paid for his then walked to the table he’d indicated.
Megan watched him go. Damn, he looked hot in those jeans, they were just the right mix of tight and loose. Memories from last night’s encounter flooded back to her and she felt the same sense of excitement as she had when they’d been in her office.
“Miss?”
“Mmm…” Megan focused on the cashier. “Oh, sorry.”
“Five pounds please.”
“Yes. Of course.” Megan quickly paid and picked up her tray.
James had taken a seat by the window. He was sipping his coffee.
Megan joined him. She’d hoped he’d look at her with the same admiration she had for him as she sat, but he didn’t. Her turning him on then taking flight had clearly put a closed sign on any action happening between them.
Way to go, Megan. First decent man to come your way and you pull down the shutters and ruin it all.
“So, what brings you to Grace Studios?” James asked, biting into a sausage sandwich.
“All a bit last minute, really.” Megan poured her tea from a small silvery pot. “Ralph and Jayne had a cancellation on a fashion slot and one of the guys on their team is a close friend of mine. He thought of me, bless him, and volunteered my services.”
James raised his eyebrows. “So you got to give Winter Shoes a shout out?”
“Yes, amazing right?” She sipped her tea.
“Incredible advertising, money couldn’t buy that. Ralph and Jayne is watched by half the housewives in the country.” He paused. “He must be some friend of yours, this bloke, to do that for you.”
“He is. We’re really close. I couldn’t be without him.”
James was silent. He bit into his sandwich again. A flash of darkness went over his eyes as he looked out of the window.
