  25. About the Author

“It’s a woman, isn’t it? You’ve met someone.” Grant sat forward, eyes wide, and clapped. “I’ll be blowed.”

Was it really that obvious? James’ scowl deepened.

“So, spill the beans, tell all. What’s she like?” Grant folded his arms and nodded. “Come on, I’m curious, you haven’t had time for lurve for ages? Not since—”

“It’s not love.” James tutted. It was far too soon for that word.

“So lust then. Come on, what’s her name, where is she from, what’s she do?”

“Bloody hell, slow down.” James picked up an elastic band from the desk and twirled it around his index finger, pulling it taut so the blood got trapped and made the skin at the tip bright red. “And besides, it was over before it started.”

“But you got some, though, right?”

James twisted the elastic around his middle finger, making it as red as the other one.

“What?” Grant held out his palms. “This awful mood and you didn’t even get lucky?”

“Shut up, Grant.” James tugged the elastic from his fingers and sent it catapult-style across the room so it hit the door square on. “I shouldn’t have said anything.”

“Doesn’t sound like there’s much to say.” Grant laughed. “Have you lost your touch?”

“Hell no and it wasn’t like that.” James could feel his already dark mood blackening. “She’s just got…issues.”

“Like what?”

“Shall we just get this done?” James sat forward and clicked his mouse. He stared at the computer screen. “The sooner the better, and then we can get the hell out of London, it’s always bloody raining here, even in the summer. I knew there was a reason I moved to LA.”

“Yeah, you’re right. Let’s get this wrapped up and head home, then we can sort out you getting laid.”

James rolled his eyes. Grant might be his best mate, but still, he knew how to push his buttons and wind him up. Plus he wasn’t always the most of sophisticated of companions.

But perhaps he was right. He did need to get laid. It had been a long bloody time, which was maybe why his brain hadn’t been in control last night.

“So what’s her name?”

“Who?” James tapped his toe on the floor, his leather shoe making quick clicking sounds on the hard wood.

“This woman that’s got you so on edge.”

James wanted to say Glitter, because that’s what he called her in his head. But now he knew she had a real name, Megan. And it suited her. It was a pretty name for a pretty lady.

“Well no wonder you didn’t get very far,” Grant scoffed. “If you didn’t even bother to ask her name.”

“Of course I did.”

“So…what is it?”

“Megan.”

“Megan what?”
