- About the Author
Megan checked the door again. She was being silly, wasn’t she? Why would someone spend their evening hanging around a doorway in this weather? She’d worked too many hours and not had enough to eat, that was it. Her imagination, which her father had always told her was too vivid, was getting carried away and inventing stuff.
“Fifteen, please.” The bartender set two glasses of wine before her. It appeared crisp and cold, the glasses misting.
Megan handed over the cash then picked up the two drinks. She headed for her favourite corner—which was thankfully free—and sat just as a pianist set up a quiet background tune.
She took a sip of her drink, rested back and let the lulling music calm her nerves. Georgie would be here soon—that was good— and at this moment in time she could do with a hug from her. Georgie gave great hugs. Plus it meant she wouldn’t have to leave Frank’s on her own. She’d have someone with her. She didn’t fancy going out alone if her imagination was running riot.
Her phone tinkled, and as she picked it up, she cast her eye around the bar. A few regulars were there, but not Hot Guy. Not that it mattered if he was there or not, he was taken.
But he was rather lovely eye candy. Admiring from afar wasn’t a sin.
“Hey, Georgie, how are you?”
“Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, you are not going to believe this, Megan.”
Georgie’s excited voice was so loud Megan had to hold her phone an inch from her ear.
“What? Bloody hell, what?”
“He’s just gone and done it, hasn’t he?” Her voice was high-pitched, her words tumbling over into one long string of sound.
“Done what?”
“You know, and on the London Eye too, right at the top. Oh my God, oh my God.”
“What, Georgie, what has who done on the top of the London Eye?”
“Tom, he went and did it, proposed. He tricked me onto the London Eye then when we were at the top he dropped to one knee and popped the question. He had a ring and everything, a sapphire in a platinum band, and it fits perfectly. Oh my God. Oh my God.”
“Would you stop saying that… And wow, congratulations.” A rush of happiness went through Megan. This was what Georgie had wanted for so long. She’d dreamt of it, hoped for it. “On the London Eye?”
“Yes, oh yes, it was so…” She sighed. “So romantic and everyone else in the pod, is that what they’re called, started clapping and congratulating us, and when we got off we went for champagne and I… Oh, Megan, I’m so happy, so very happy and I love him so much. He’s my everything.”
