- About the Author
“Really?” Georgie said. “Isn’t he a bit brawn and muscle for you? I thought you liked the more cultured look?”
Brendon shrugged and reached for three glasses from the kitchen cupboard. “Maybe I’d like to get me a bit of rough.”
“You would not.” Megan looked at his slight frame. Brendon wasn’t skinny but he didn’t exactly ooze muscle definition either, and his pale skin, sprinkle of freckles and hair that could only be described as ginger gave him a delicate appearance.
“Hey, don’t be judgy.” Brendon unscrewed the lid of the wine and set it on the counter. “I might enjoy some hanky-panky, hanky-spanky.” He made a show of whacking his palm on his buttocks and jiggling his hips. “Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes, ohhhh…”
“Shut up,” Georgie said, laughing. “Sean goes to the gym most nights for about three hours, he’d snap you in half with one hefty spank.”
“And break your bones,” Megan added.
“I’m tougher than I look.” Brendon pouted then shoved up the sleeve on his T-shirt and flexed his biceps. “See. Bulging.”
“We’re very impressed,” Megan said, nodding intently. “Now pour the wine, then we’ll be even more impressed.”
“Yes, ma’am. Bossy these days, aren’t you?”
Megan looked at Georgie and pulled down the corners of her mouth. “I kind of want to know what Sean said about Dylan, but also I don’t. I’ve been thinking about him since I knew they got back.”
“Well don’t find out then,” Georgie said, taking a glass of wine from Brendon and shrugging. “Simple.”
“How about you tell me, Georgie,” Brendon said. “Then I can decide if Megan needs to know. I’ll sift the information for her.”
“You’ll tell her everything anyway, whether she needs to know or not,” Georgie said. “You won’t be able to help yourself.”
“True.” Brendon nodded and passed Megan a glass of wine. “I wouldn’t.” He took a drink for himself. “So here’s to finding out how truly broken his heart is.”
“It’s not funny,” Megan said. “I feel really bad about it all. No one should have to go through what I did to him.”
“I know you feel bad, Megan, but it’s happened and the fact is, he didn’t deserve you and now he needs to man-up and move on.”
“He thought he deserved me.” Megan took a sip of wine then looked between her two best friends as they glanced at each other, their lips pressed tight.
“What?” Megan asked. “What aren’t you saying?”
“Nothing,” Georgie said, before gulping back a mouthful of sauvignon. “Oh, that’s nice. From New Zealand, is it?”
“Yes, not sure what region. Shall I look?” Brendon went to reach for the bottle.
“No, stop stalling.” Megan frowned. “What aren’t you saying?” Megan paused. “Brendon?”
“Well…” He drew the word out and rolled his eyes.
“What? Tell me.”
