- About the Author
“Thanks. I think.” She patted her pocket then glanced at the table and the island. “Where’s my phone?”
“How would I know?” Brendon looked around.
“I need to call James.”
“And say what?”
“Explain. Explain that what he saw wasn’t what he saw.” She spotted a hairband on the table and reached for it, then pulled her hair back into a ponytail and secured it on the top of her head. She felt hot and bothered and her scalp still tingled a little as if it remembered Dylan tugging at her hair.
“That sounds like it will do the trick,” Brendon said, pulling down the edges of his mouth. “What he saw wasn’t what he saw.”
“Well you know, tell him that Dylan hadn’t been invited, that I didn’t want him here in my home.” She looked over at the kettle, wondering if her phone was there. No, maybe it was in her purse. “If I can just explain, he’ll understand. He’s not a like Dylan, he’s not so full of himself that he can’t see someone else’s point of view. In fact that’s his job, showing conflict from all perspectives and giving a balanced view.”
“Very commendable.” Brendon scooped Gucci up and set him on his lap. “What are you doing?”
“I’m looking for my phone.” She scratched her head. “Where on Earth is it?”
“When did you use it last?”
“I…er…to text you. To come over.”
“Well, is it in your pocket?”
She patted her jeans. “No.”
“Hang on. I’ll ring it.” Brendon reached for his phone and unlocked the screen.
Within a few minutes her ring tone rang faintly in the distance.
“I can hear it,” Brendon said, frowning. “Is it in your bedroom?”
“No.” Megan looked towards the kitchen. She took a step closer. The singing was coming from the fridge. “Oh, bloody hell, I remember now.” She pulled open the door and the music got louder.
Her phone was sitting next to a couple of bottles of Stella and a lump of cheese.
“What on earth is it doing in there?” Brendon asked, shaking his head.
Megan huffed as she retrieved the phone. The case was cold. “I didn’t want to risk Dylan seeing that I’d texted you so I hid it in here after I sent the message.”
“Good idea.” He sat back and crossed his legs. “So do you have Hot Guy’s number?”
“James, his name is James.” She flicked through her contacts until she found his details. “And yes, I have, so this will all be sorted out in a jiffy.”
“Absolutely.” Brendon nodded confidently. “I’m sure he’ll be relieved to hear from you. He really did look quite shocked.”
