“I wasn’t going to ask,” Crystal says with indignation. “Miller already assured me she wasn’t expecting.”
“And if she was, it’s none of our business,” Mom says. “We have to work on you, Crystal. I can like you, but only if you stop with that bossy attitude.”
“Ladies,” I interrupt them. “We’re here to make sure we like the cake, not to fight. Now if you excuse me, I’m taking these delicious frostings home.”
“I thought you’re the one choosing the frosting flavor,” Mom says.
“Uh-huh,” I answer, then turn to George, “I’ll give you a call tomorrow to let you know which one I want. Mom, don’t forget to text me which cake you guys chose.”
Claire: Heading home.
I text Miller a picture of the frostings.
Miller: I should be there in ten minutes. The tuxedos are ready. I can’t believe you’re making me wear a tuxedo.
Claire: My wedding, my choice.
Miller: It’s my wedding too.
Claire: You get to choose what I wear under my dress, remember?
Miller: Nothing.
Claire: I love you, perv.
Miller: I know.
Miller
Two weeks later …
Claire is breathtakingly beautiful. I hold my breath as she walks down the aisle next to her father. Our gazes connect. I’ve never seen anyone looking at me with so much love, and I hope my eyes let her know I love her just as much, if not more.
I still can’t believe she’s about to become my wife. I love everything about this woman, the heaven in her eyes and her mischievousness mind. She’s not only the love of my life, she’s about to become my partner.
“Hey, handsome,” she whispers when she arrives at the small gazebo her brother built for the wedding.
“You look gorgeous,” I mumble, kissing her cheek. “Last chance to elope.”
She looks around, chuckles and says, “I think it’s a little too late for that. Come on, a few hours and I’ll make it worthwhile.”
“Miller, take care of my baby,” Mr. Solis says, hugging Claire and whispering something to her.
“Always, sir,” I promise.
Claire gives her bouquet to Nikki, who is the matron of honor. Danielle and Courtney are her bridesmaids. Devon is my best man. Thomas and Craig are the groomsmen. When it comes time for the rings, Lucas walks toward us holding one of the pillows, Aiden holds the second one, and Valerie holds Reggie’s leash.
As we exchange rings, we exchange vows.
