Maybe I’m not cut out for dating. I just want a guy who understands me. Someone I can talk to about everything or just be with in silence while doing something I love. I want…You know what I want?
To stop thinking about Miller Archer. Why did I let him spend the day with us? The asshole was so nice with my niece and nephew. He cooked for us. Pasta, but it was so good. Valerie bossed him around and he didn’t complain once. Actually, he treated her as if she was his niece.
My heart thumped fast against my ribcage and my ovaries exploded every five minutes. There was a moment when I wanted to say, “Any way you can donate some of your boys so I can make a kid with your DNA?”
The thing I dislike the most about him is that I have to work hard not to like him. Asshole.
“Meeting people is exhausting,” I answer. “At least I don’t have to pay you for the numbing juice.”
“Only for you, don’t think that I’m going to give freebies to the next guy I’m going to beat to a pulp for hurting my sister.”
“There you go, thinking this is going to end up on a disaster.”
“It’s a blind date. Those never work,” he rants.
“Danielle set it up,” I say as if explaining how his theory is wrong.
My answer is merely a reflex. I can’t let my big brother be right all the time. But let’s get real, he’s not wrong.
“Well then,” he pauses, “it must be okay if the crazy redhead chose him.”
“She ran a background check.”
“Most serial killers have a clean record,” he argues.
“Thank you for the fact check, Mr. Google,” I say. “What would I do without your ample wisdom?”
I grab my margarita and leave him to mind his business. If we continue discussing my date, I’ll end up telling him about my neighbor. He’s not going to like it. If there’s one person who wants Miller Archer’s blood as much as I do, it’s Thomas.
Okay, maybe I want more than his blood. We could produce a couple of babies before I get rid of him. Well, maybe I’ll let him stick around for a couple of years after I have his spawns. He’s hot, but even more when he’s being all fatherly.
Would he really be like that for the long run? Nope, this is an act, I remind myself.
If there’s a subject we bonded over during our weekend, it was how much we didn’t like children. That man is up to something.
What are his motives? There’s not much he can get out of being nice to my family.
