Tracey flopped onto her back on the bed. “I’m sure that’s part of it, but I think the night he took care of me was the beginning of a change between us. He was so gentle and kind, I can’t unsee his empathy or unfeel his compassion.” She told Josie about some of their quiet, more intimate moments. “It’s like I keep getting peeks beneath his armor, and I know there’s a lot more to him than the glimpses I’ve gotten. But to be honest, I went to the clubhouse to give Diesel hell after my date with Damon, and I don’t know what happened. The second I saw him, I had butterflies and goose bumps, and I wanted him like I’ve never wanted anything before. I yelled, we talked, and somehow I ended up in his bed, which is where I spent the last three nights.”

“Three nights? Wow.”

The hesitation in her voice gave Tracey pause. “What? Just say it.”

“You were worried about his revolving bedroom door. I like Diesel, you know that, and Jed thinks he’s the greatest guy around, but I don’t want you to get hurt.”

“I know, but he’s not like we thought. I mean, he kind of is. He’s not a talker, and he’s been with a lot of women, but not as many as we thought.” She told Josie about Diesel driving the drunk women home and not sleeping with them. “Don’t worry. I’m going into this with my eyes wide open. But he said he’s with me now and he’s not going to be with anyone else, and I believe him.”

“I guess he’s not if he’s keeping you in his bed every night.”

“You don’t hear me complaining. The man must snack on Viagra.” They both laughed.

“Does he know how to be loving in bed? I picture him being rough and, I don’t know, like a biker.”

“You’re married to a biker.” Tracey didn’t mean to sound so offended, but she felt protective of Diesel.

“I know, but Jed is sweet, and Diesel is rough.”

“He is, but with me he’s sexy rough, not mean rough. And I know without a shadow of a doubt that he would never hurt me physically.” They’d showered together each morning, and when he’d washed her back, he’d kissed each of her fading bruises. She’d reveled in every second of it.

“Is he still leaving after the holidays?”
