- Meet Melissa
Moon leaned in from the next table, eyeing Bullet. “Do the fireworks between them count?”
Diesel shut him down with a dark stare.
After the meeting, some of the guys went to play pool, while others played darts or sat around shooting the shit. Diesel played a few games of pool with the guys and talked with Vaughn about the work he was going to do. He was heading across the room to sit down when Biggs intercepted him.
“That was a good idea you had about the lights,” Biggs said.
“Thanks.”
“But are you sure you want to give up control of those ride-bys?” Biggs asked.
Diesel didn’t like anyone knowing his business, but he wasn’t about to lie to Biggs. “It needs to be done.”
“I respect that.”
Diesel’s phone vibrated, and he pulled it out of his pocket to read the message, biting back a curse at the sight of Jeanette’s name on the message. Ready for that ride?
“Everything okay, son?” Biggs asked.
“I gotta take care of something at the bar.”
“Does that something have big hazel eyes?”
Diesel pocketed his phone, his gut churning. That hazel-eyed girl was the only one he gave a damn about, and he was starting to wonder when the last time was that he’d done something that didn’t have to do with her. But as was his way, he didn’t see a need to respond. “See you around, Biggs.”
He left the clubhouse and headed back into the bar. His eyes found Tracey like a GPS missile. Jeanette walked into his line of sight, her face lighting up as she hurried over to him and said, “I knew you’d come!”
Jeanette touched his arm at the very moment Tracey looked over. His chest constricted at the hurt rising in her eyes and eating up the space between them. He yanked his arm away from Jeanette.
“Sorry. I forgot. No touching,” she said playfully.
“Let’s get out of here.” He pushed open the door and followed her out, chased by the soul-crushing sadness he’d left behind.
Chapter Seven
TUESDAY AFTERNOON, AFTER a night of bitching with Josie and Izzy and stuffing her face with ice cream, Tracey was still fit to be tied. That in and of itself infuriated her. It wasn’t like there was anything real between her and Diesel. It was a good thing she was working the day shift, because if she had to work with him, she’d lose her frigging mind. She’d been an idiot to think they’d had some sort of connection. She’d bet the big jerk didn’t even know the meaning of the word connection beyond when his dick was inside some drunk woman.
