TRACEY NOTICED A lot more vehicles on the road than there were yesterday. A slew of them fell into line behind them as Diesel followed a motorcycle onto the Redemption Ranch property. He drove to an impressively large house made of stone, wood, and glass with a sign out front that read REDEMPTION RANCH THERAPEUTIC SERVICES. There were dozens of people pouring out of cars and milling about on the lawn, where men and women were setting up tables and chairs and children were chasing one another around and kicking balls. Diesel parked in the packed lot, and the other motorcycles and vehicles behind them parked along the road.
Tracey looked around as they took off their helmets, noticing a sea of leather jackets and vests boasting Dark Knights patches. “Are we interrupting a club event?”
“No. I think Tiny put the word out.” He locked their helmets to the bike, hung the guitar over one of his shoulders, and draped an arm around her.
“About what?”
“He said he was going to tell the others about Axel and that we should celebrate. I thought he meant with the family.”
As people waved and called out to Diesel, Tracey couldn’t stifle her grin, excitement bubbling up inside her. “He did. Only in your language, they’re called a brotherhood.”
He leaned down to kiss her. “Don’t give me crap about my language.”
“I’ll give you crap about whatever I want.” She went up on her toes for more kisses.
“Diesel!” A petite brunette ran toward them in an oversized Flashdance-style sweatshirt that hung off one shoulder, a black miniskirt, black fuzzy boots, and a polka-dot scarf tied around her forehead.
Trying to keep pace with her was a cute blonde wearing jeans, a blue sweater, cowgirl boots, and a hat. Behind her trailed a very large man with a gray beard and a pendulous belly, wearing a black leather vest and a bandanna tied around his head. He was holding hands with a pretty middle-aged blonde with a layered shag haircut and a warm smile, and they were looking at Diesel like they’d never seen anything better.
The brunette launched herself into Diesel’s arms. “I’ve missed you!” As he set her on her feet, she punched his arm and smirked. “Hey, cuz. Dad told us the exciting news. I guess it’s a good thing we never hooked up.”
Diesel’s brows slanted. “What…?”
The brunette cracked up.
“Birdie! This is his girlfriend.” The cute blonde rolled her eyes. “Ignore her. I’m Sasha, the normal one, and she’s Birdie, the other one.”
“I prefer the cute one.” Birdie wiggled her shoulders.
Diesel shook his head. “Birdie, Sasha, this is my girl, Tracey.”
“Hi. It’s nice to meet both of you.” Tracey already loved them.
