“I see I’m going to need to make extra cupcakes for Kennedy and Lincoln’s birthday party,” Finlay teased. “Scott can take care of your other needs.”
Kennedy and Lincoln’s birthday party was next Sunday. Tracey was still deciding what to get them. Diesel had such a soft spot for the kids, she wondered if he’d go shopping with her.
“You guys know I hired Trixie to bring miniature horses to the party as a surprise for the kids. That’s why the party is Western-themed.” Dixie snagged a gingerbread cookie. Her friend Trixie Jericho owned a miniature horse therapy business in Pleasant Hill, where she lived with her fiancé, rancher Nick Braden.
“Bones and I are already prepared for the kids to beg for a pony after the party,” Sarah said. “They love them.”
“I can’t wait to see Kennedy dragging Diesel all around the party,” Tracey said as Josie and Izzy finished with their customers and joined them. “Remember when she made him a Valentine’s Day heart with their names in it? Don’t tell him I told you, but he kept it. It’s in his sock drawer. I saw it when I stuck a note in there for him.”
There was a collective “Aww.”
“I know, right? I melted on the spot when I saw it, but I didn’t tell him, so mum’s the word.”
“That’s super cute,” Dixie said. “But I guess you haven’t heard the latest about Kennedy and her crushes. I took her to see the miniature horses on Nick and Trixie’s ranch to make sure she wasn’t afraid of them, and she followed Nick everywhere. She took his hat right off his head and wore it all afternoon. It was the cutest thing.”
“Aw, poor Diesel,” Tracey mused.
Izzie nudged her. “I think your man’s very well taken care of these days.”
There was a murmur of agreement.
“It’s too bad Gemma and Crystal had to work today. They would have loved all this,” Josie said as an announcement rang out through the loudspeakers about the fashion show starting in ten minutes on the main stage, featuring Jax and Jillian Braden.
A cacophony of noise rose around them, and it seemed everyone in the place hurried toward the stage. Nick’s brother Jax was a famous wedding-gown designer, and his twin, Jillian, was not only well known for her unique dresses but also for the Leather and Lace clothing line for female bikers, which she’d designed with Dixie’s husband, Jace.
“Do you think I’ll get to see any of the show?” the woman whose hair Sarah was doing asked.
“Yes. I’ll be done in two minutes,” Sarah reassured her. The women waiting in line looked fretfully toward the stage. “I’ll be here all day, ladies. You can go enjoy the show and come back later.”
