- About the Author
- OTHER BOOKS BY TRACI HUNTER ABRAMSON
“Thank you, Brenna.” Levi stood and waited for her to set the tray down. “Tell Patrice thank you for us.”
“I will.” Brenna disappeared back inside, and Levi reclaimed his seat.
“How did Patrice know we were out here?” Cassie asked.
“I’m sure this is Janessa’s doing.” Levi picked up the bread basket and held it out to her. She hesitated briefly before she took a croissant.
Cassie tore off a piece but didn’t eat it. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have assumed . . .”
“That this is a relationship of convenience?” Levi finished for her.
“Something like that.” She took a bite, chewing slowly as though trying to gather her thoughts. She swallowed and focused on him again. “It’s hard knowing our time together is limited. If you’re successful in finding who is threatening me and my family, you won’t have any reason to be with me anymore.”
“I have plenty of reasons to be with you,” Levi countered. “I don’t know what it will look like when we get past this, but I’d like to think we can see each other even when you’re safe and your security enhancements are complete.”
“I’d like that too.”
Levi squeezed her hand. “Then we’ll make it happen.”
CHAPTER 21
We’ll make it happen. Levi’s words repeated through her mind as they worked side by side in his office. Levi had abandoned his desk, choosing instead to use his laptop beside her at his worktable.
As though by unspoken agreement, they had adopted a professional air while they worked. No more touches on her hand or shoulder, no more talk about what might happen in their future. Cassie tried to keep that question out of her thoughts, remembering that living to see her future was her first priority.
“I have the list of primary stockholders in Satori,” Cassie said. “Do you want me to email it to you?”
“Yeah, but let me set up a dummy email account for you to use on our secure server,” he said. “I don’t want any electronic signatures to connect us.”
“Okay.”
Levi motioned to her computer. “May I?”
“Sure.” Cassie angled her computer toward him.
Levi started tapping on her keyboard, opening a window to access a secure server. The thought that she had allowed him access to everything on her computer flared for a moment. She reminded herself that she trusted Levi. He hadn’t done anything since meeting her except try to help her.
“Can you hand me that pad of paper over there?” Levi pointed at the legal pad by her left elbow.
“Sure.” She reached for it and handed it to him.
He finished tapping something on her keyboard and took it from her. “This is the email address I’m giving you. You can use whatever password you want, but I’ll need you to tell me what you pick so I can access it as well.”
“Why?”
“Because you aren’t going to email me. You’ll put anything you want me to have in a draft email,” Levi said. “If it isn’t sent, there won’t be a record. When we’re done transferring information, we simply delete the email and no one is the wiser.”
