- About the Author
- OTHER BOOKS BY TRACI HUNTER ABRAMSON
“Prime rib?” she asked.
“With sautéed mushrooms and bleu cheese.”
“Patrice outdid herself.”
“Yes, she did.” Levi served Cassie a piece before stabbing a piece of meat and placing it on his plate.
“Do you think you could arrange for me to talk to my father after dinner?” Cassie asked. “I know you don’t want me calling him directly, but . . .”
“I think I can work something out.”
“Good.” Cassie picked up her fork. “Because I think my father should give you full access to what happened the night of the shooting.”
Relief and a sense of anticipation bubbled inside him, but he didn’t let his emotions show. “That would be helpful.”
“And for the record, I do trust you.”

Cassie stood behind Levi’s desk while he fiddled with the settings on his internet server. A map appeared on the screen, a line zigzagging through cities all over the world.
“Okay, we’re all set.” Levi stood and offered his chair to her. “Put your father’s phone number in there, and it will connect you.”
“Are you sure no one will be able to trace the call?”
“As long as you aren’t on for more than fifteen minutes, you’ll be fine.”
Cassie drew a deep breath and blew it out. She sat and punched in her father’s private phone number. He answered on the second ring.
“Hello?”
“Papa, it’s me.”
“You shouldn’t be calling me.”
“It’s okay. My friend made sure our call won’t be intercepted, but I don’t have much time,” Cassie said. “Did you hear about the bank robberies today?”
“Are you talking about the robberies in Zurich?”
“That was only one city affected.” Cassie didn’t have to look at the list to remember the others. “Robberies also occurred in Malmo, Rome, Barcelona . . .” Silence hung over the line for a moment, and Cassie had no doubt her father was processing the information just as she had two hours ago. “Papa, every one of the thefts included cash and items from safe-deposit boxes.”
“You know what they were after,” he finally said. “Do you know if they were successful?”
“The only two they missed were the ones that are still privately held.”
“You think someone working for the royal family is involved.”
“It has to be someone with access.” Cassie looked up at Levi. “I want to help with this.”
“I don’t want you putting yourself in further danger.”
“You know as well as I that the only way to end this is to find out who is behind it,” Cassie said. “I have someone here who can help, someone I trust.”
“Who?” he demanded.
“The man protecting me,” Cassie said. “He’s from Meridia. His name is Levi Marin.”
“Who is he?”
“He is head of security for the royal chateau.”
“Is he there?” her father asked.
“Yes.”
“Let me speak to him.”
Cassie motioned for Levi to join her in front of the computer so he would be closer to the microphone.
