  36. About the Author

As understanding dawns on me, I have to fight back a grin. “Oh my god, you think she’s hot,” I whisper gleefully.

With a glare, she says, “No, I don’t.” Then she huffs as she pours juice into the blender. “Fine, yes. I’m a lesbian and I have eyes. But who cares? She’s famous and too young for me. And let’s not forget that she’s straight. Little America’s country sweetheart, right?”

“You do know why she came back here to lay low, don’t you?” I ask, glancing around the kitchen to check that none of the other staff is listening.

“How the heck would I know that?”

“There were like twenty gossip articles about it.”

She looks intrigued for a second, but she tries to hide it with a shake of her head. “I don’t have time for gossip. I have a kitchen to run, and you’re in my way.” With that, she pops the lid on the blender and turns it on, the noise drowning out any response I might have had.

Well, fine. If this is how she wants to be, then I’ll let her find out on her own that someone recently posted a video online of Riley in a dive bar, drunk and making out with another woman.

“Here,” Addison says, thrusting a glass of freshly poured smoothie at me. “You can bring this to her.”

“You made her a smoothie?” I question, eyeing it. They’re definitely not on the menu. “I thought you said she wasn’t being difficult.”

“She’s not.” Addison hesitates, then says, “I offered.”

I snort a laugh. “Oh yeah?”

“Shut up,” she demands, but that only makes me laugh harder.

“Tell me again how you feel about her flimsy little sundresses,” I tease.

She fixes me with a look that’s clearly meant to be intimidating. And while she’s my employee and we’re sort of friends now, it still works. “Look,” she says sharply. “I’m happy for you that you got your man and now you’re all domestic. But not all of us are looking for that shit, so back off.”

I hold up my hands in surrender, one clutching the glass, and literally start backing away. This could get interesting.

After delivering the smoothie to Riley and ensuring she doesn’t need anything else, I head back to my table to find that they all ordered lunch without me.

When I pout, Travis kisses my cheek and says, “I ordered you the French dip with fries.” Which is exactly what I was in the mood for.

I take his hand, sighing happily. What a wonderful, wonderful man.
