Jana wrote something in her notebook again. Henrik rubbed his nose while he thought.

“So if we check with the airline, we will find a Pimnipat on a flight from...”

Henrik didn’t finish his sentence.

“We understand that you want to be left alone,” he said, “but we have to talk with you in detail over the coming days, and even if it’s unpleasant, we have to ask you questions right now. But you don’t need to be scared. Nothing is going to happen to you.”

Pim closed her eyes, biting her lip. Her eyes flitted back and forth under her eyelids, making her short black eyelashes tremble.

“He’s still hunting me, isn’t he?” she whispered.

“Who?” Henrik asked.

“He’s hunting me,” she said.

“Who’s hunting you?” Henrik repeated. “Is someone hunting you?”

“No. I don’t want to, I don’t want to...”

“You’re not in danger,” Henrik said quietly.

Pim sighed, opening her eyes and looking at the interpreter.

“But we have to...” Henrik said. “What was supposed to happen when you came to Norrköping? Was someone meeting you, or were you supposed to get in touch with someone?”

Pim didn’t answer.

“But you knew that Noi was supposed to make this ‘delivery’?”

“No, I didn’t know anything. We were going on vacation...”

“To Norrköping?” Mia exclaimed skeptically. “You traveled from...wherever you traveled from, to take a vacation in Norrköping?”

Henrik glared at her.

“Yes,” Pim said.

“And who did Noi get this job from?” Henrik asked.

“I have no idea.”

“Okay.” He decided to change his approach. “Can you tell me anything about where you were? It was a room, you said.”

“It was so cold in the room...”

“What else? Was there furniture?”

“Water. There was water everywhere.”

“Water. Was it running water? Waves?”

“Wood...and two stories.”

“There were two stories?” Henrik said.

“Yes.”

Jana wrote in her notebook again.

Pim’s voice cracked. She pulled her hands up and put them in front of her face.

“So much snow,” she cried. “I was running through the snow. He was hunting me. I was able to get away. He’d tied me up.”

“Why had he tied you up?”

“So that I wouldn’t run away.”

“Was there any other reason?”

“No.”

“But it wouldn’t be that he wanted to make sure that what you had swallowed came out in a secure location?”

“I didn’t swallow anything. Noi had. I was just traveling with her.”

Pim took her hands from her face and began fingering the blanket.

“When can I go home? I have a little sister who’s waiting for me.”

“Where is she waiting?”

Pim fell silent.

“We have to know where you live.”

She remained quiet.

“You’ll have to stay here for a while,” Henrik said.

“No, I have to go home,” Pim said. “But he has my passport! I want my passport!”
