“First reason is that I can’t have sex when I want to because it would tarnish my public reputation. Everyone I’ve ever slept with until this point was connected to the List. Before I started making my own appointments, everyone I slept with was also decided on by Sun Yue. Second reason is that these appointments I have are one of the many reasons I can’t get to sleep at night, and I figured having sex with you would remedy that.” He reached over and patted Weiran on the leg. Weiran flinched. “I was right. I feel like I can pass out as soon as I hit the sheets. What about you?”
Weiran pulled the pillow away from his face a little. He peered at Xiaokai over the edge of it, is eyebrows drawing together. Cute. “What do you mean?”
“Why did you go through with it? I asked you several times if everything was okay and always got an enthusiastic yes. Well, not the last time, but to be fair you just shoved your—”
Weiran threw his pillow in Xiaokai’s direction. “Stop. I was just…I wasn’t in my right state of mind.”
“You mean when you were calling me Xingyu?” Xiaokai started tying the knot in his tie now, raising one eyebrow at Weiran. “Or…before that?”
Weiran groaned. “I definitely wasn’t in my right mind then.”
“I already said it was fine. It doesn’t bother me.”
“How is that not weird for you?”
Xiaokai snorted. “I told you about my other appointments. You really think I’m going to be bothered by someone saying someone else’s name instead of mine?”
“But it’s—it’s your brother’s name.”
“As I said, it isn’t a problem. It isn’t like I’m having sex with Xingyu, anyway.”
Weiran choked on his own spit and had to sit up and cough for a good minute before he was able to catch his breath again.
“In any case, have you been drinking?”
“What? No.”
“What about drugs?”
Weiran made a face. “No. I’ve never done any drugs.”
“Hm…did you at any point feel like I was threatening you or pressuring you into agreeing to have sex with me?”
Another face, this time less confused and more resigned. “No.”
“Then you were in a perfectly fine state of mind. Should I find you another shirt somewhere before I go? That looks like it’s going to stain.”
Weiran put his face in his hands again and took a deep, shaky breath.
