- ABOUT THE AUTHOR

It would be an exaggeration to say that the heavens broke into song, yet p-haps I did feel a lightening of my soul, and the sun seemed to shine a little brighter when he said it. P-haps an explanation of the events of the past month with him? Yet, one has to wonder, what about the Betrayal was inspiration to him, what about it attracted him to me? I still say he’s sorry for me, yet looking in those brown eyes I found myself I guess you could say melting, like a pile of snow in the April sun, to risk a mawkish simile.
“Friday night?” she said, a little coyly. “Let me think. I don’t think I’m busy.”
“Want to go to a movie, maybe? I could pick you up at seven.”
She smiled. “All right.”
Talk turned to other things; she found herself wishing she hadn’t let him get away so easily in kindergarten.
He is smart, & very sweet, in fact walked me all the way up to the front porch and went over details of Friday and gave me a terribly sweet look before parting. Yet strangely I left him in a state of almost disappointment, I guess you could say. Suppose all the mystery is over, now it’s on to typical movie dates, and him trying to sneak his arm around me, etc., him nervously wanting to kiss me and etc. while I pretend coyness, or feel conflicted (he’s so sweet but should I, etc.), & matters proceed in the typical pedestrian manner, tho’ in defense I am truly beside myself and don’t know why I am bothering when it can only end in disaster (love or lack of it??) as ever.
Everyone was surprised when they found out that Elissa and Ty had started dating. Both prominent members of the senior class, they had one minute been as separate as oil and water, and the next, it seemed to everyone, they were all but fused, seen together before school, after school (him leaning on her locker, chucking her under her chin, looking back over his shoulder as he walked away from her, as she pretended not to notice), Friday nights, Saturday nights, Sunday afternoons. Judy Wasserman in particular was vexed, even though, before Elissa took an interest in him, Judy hadn’t bothered with him at all.
