  30. About the Author

She toyed with her drink, sliding the plastic cup around on the table as she tried to think things through logically. Her friendship with Cade was important to her, and if someone had asked her yesterday, she would have said it was too important to risk for a scene, or sex. But that was before Kyle had set their relationship on fire, destroying it beyond any hope of repair, and it was before Cade had made it clear that he wanted more. The way he’d restrained her in his kitchen had been almost unbearably arousing, and it was only a pale, watery version of the scenes that she longed for. The idea of what he could do to her if he really let himself off the leash left her stunned and all but shaking with want.

She stared at the ice melting in her cup. Cade wanted her, and she wanted him, and the only question now was what was she going to do about it.

The clank of dishes startled her out of her thoughts, and she looked up to see that Sadie and Rebecca had returned and were passing out plates, napkins, and forks.

“What’s all that?” she asked, grateful for the distraction.

“We needed sustenance,” Rebecca said cheerfully. “And we thought you might need some, too.”

“Okay,” Olivia replied, frowning at the table, which, other than the recently distributed plates and their drinks, was empty.

“Here we are,” someone said, and Olivia glanced up as a server placed an entire carrot cake and four glasses of milk on the table. She laid a knife next to the cake plate with a smile. “Enjoy.”

“Oh, we will,” Amanda said with a laugh, and picked up the knife.

“So?” Sadie asked, accepting the slab of cake Amanda slid over to her. “What’re you going to do?”

“Jesus, Sadie.” Rebecca handed Sadie a fork. “Eat your cake and give her a minute.”

“Sorry.” Sadie took the fork and stabbed her cake. “I don’t mean to push.”

“Yes, you do,” Olivia said, and Sadie glanced up in surprise as Amanda laughed.

“Okay, I do. But only because I think you and Cade could be really great together.”

“So do I,” Amanda said, sliding a wedge of cake in front of Olivia.

“Ditto,” Rebecca chimed in. “But what we think isn’t important.”

“I’m forced to agree,” Sadie mumbled around a mouthful of carrot cake. “Holy crap, this is good.”

“What’s important,” Rebecca went on, “is what you think.”

Olivia picked up her fork and carved off a bite of cake. “I think I want Cade,” she said, then shoved her fork in her mouth to keep from taking the words back.

“Yes!” Sadie cried, spraying cake crumbs across the table.

“Ew.” Rebecca grimaced and reached for a napkin.

“I second that, both the yes and the ew,” Amanda said as Rebecca mopped the table and Sadie mopped her face.
