- About the Author
“Which is?” Rebecca prompted when Sadie fell silent.
“Are you, or are you not, going to let Cade destroy you?”
“Oh, that question,” Rebecca said, and turned to eye Olivia expectantly.
“Hell, yes,” Olivia said.
“Oh, boy.” Sadie wiggled in delight. “Tell us everything, and don’t spare the details.”
“There’s nothing to tell yet,” Olivia began, and had to stifle a laugh when Sadie’s face fell.
“Nothing? He didn’t do anything?”
“He said we needed to talk first, and there wasn’t time because he had to take a pig’s foot to his mom before his meeting.”
Sadie blinked. “I don’t know how to process that.”
“My God, she’s been struck speechless,” Amanda said, and let out a rolling laugh. “I never thought I’d see the day.”
“He had a meeting on a Saturday?” Rebecca asked as Sadie flipped her middle finger at Amanda.
“It was an AA meeting,” Olivia told her.
“Oh, right.”
“So when is this talk supposed to take place?” Sadie wanted to know.
“Tomorrow afternoon. He wants me to think about what I want, and be ready to talk about it then.”
“I think that’s reasonable,” Amanda allowed.
“I think it’s smart,” Rebecca put in.
“I think it’s fucking diabolical,” Sadie declared.
“Yes!” Olivia cried, and some of the sexual frustration she’d felt watching Cade walk out of the door came rushing back. “He got me all wound up, then he just…walked out.”
“Bastard,” Sadie muttered.
“It’s still smart,” Amanda argued. “He wants to make sure you’ve thought it through, that you’re considering all the implications.”
“I don’t know if I even know what all the implications are.” Olivia sighed. “I just know I spent a year and a half trying to think of him as just a friend, and now all I can think about is jumping his bones.”
Sadie grinned. “Get it, girl.”
“Wait a second.” Rebecca leaned forward. “You’ve had feelings for him all this time?”
“Feelings?” Olivia frowned. “You mean, besides the let’s-get-naked kind? I don’t know.”
“You don’t know?” Amanda asked.
“I was trying to make my relationship work,” Olivia explained. “I couldn’t do that if I was lusting after another man. I guess I just put the possibility of more out of my mind.”
“I get that,” Rebecca allowed. “I did the same thing with Nick until I just couldn’t take it anymore.”
Olivia chewed her lip, indecision drowning out the excitement she’d felt only moments ago. “Maybe we shouldn’t do anything.”
“Why the hell not?” Sadie wanted to know.
“What if I do have feelings for him?” Dread sat like a ball of lead in her stomach. “What then?”
“The line is, ‘and they lived happily ever after’,” Sadie said.
“Not if he doesn’t feel the same,” Olivia began, but Sadie was shaking her head.
“Trust me, he does.”
“How do you know?”
